Mapmaking Medals: Present and Correct

It's something we've been discussing for some time now, but particularly the last couple of months.

We've been debating the mapmaking medal for xml - not any specific contributor. The decision to post when I did was triggered by the fact that it took me so little time and effort to compile the Quad Cities xml - which I do not think I deserve a medal for.

Haha, that never crossed my mind, actually. I'd like to think that's not the case. Despite our history, I don't think he would this solely to give me a good hit below the belt.

But ender has a point - you are the one making exceptions here and asking for controversy. "Well, why did so-and-so get a contribution medal for his XML and I didn't? I worked just as hard, if not, harder on my XML!" I mean, I understand your reasoning, but is it worth it?

And it's not like XML people are "stealing" contribution medals from the Graphics and Gameplay contributers, XML coders are usually the last to get the medal. So, like for California, TBK would get the map medal for his Graphics and Gameplay, and then the other one would just be given to no one because I don't deserve it? Frankly, it doesn't matter to me, it's just a pretty graphic to have next to my name and I just like doing the XML because I enjoy it, but I'm sure to many others that medal is worth something.

I respect your decision, whichever way you go, but just some things to consider.

Qwert has been PMing me since this discussion started, and I thought he brought up a half-way decent argument: Many other people have received medals for quickie XMLs, so why deprive the newer folk of this? Just something to think about.

P.S. qwert refuses to post in the Foundry due to the fact that he doesn't agree with the Foundry process, so that is why I am posting his thoughts (in a grammatically correct and nicer way).

With that logic, no changes could ever be made to any policy. The older people are grandfathered in, newer people will just have to suck it up... the cupcakes.

Co-developed the Iceland map

Not that I'm complaining, but zimmah just did the xml in one evening. I did everything else, the rest of the year. I wouldn't really call it "co-developing".

true, the XML of that map was quite simple.

Oasis took me a lot longer.

on a sidenote, i also wrote the XML for Operation Drug War.
