names on map

the most of space of maps "take" names of regions. could be used for every regions (much of them) only abbrevitations and then in xml full names?
what blue guys think about this?

Foundry Guidelines are your best friends for this type of questions:

The image should present itself as clear and legible. Any information you need to know to play a map should be easy to gather by looking at the map itself

So, if you use abbreviations the map must be clear and easy to play anyway...look what cairnswk did for his rail maps, for example
