I would've hoped that a country or continent allows for expansion into these kinds of maps. Alternatively, would it not be an idea to have a poll for a geographic map or non-geographic? So Midgard, Midkemdil etc. would count as geographic and 8 Thoughts, Madness etc. wouldn't.

+1 :)

Good point, this poll is misleading! :D

How would you be able to tell a continent from a country in a fantasy situation? :-s

I voted for the world, simply because we are all from different countries.

Continents are cool. We don't need another space shot of a world where a continent can be a single region. I want mountains and rivers.

I voted for a world, but I'd be happy with all of these options.

But no city option? No cosmos? =)

So, as an example from D&D:

World: Oerth -

City: Sigil -

Cosmos: The Planes -

(Yes, I know we won't be able to use copyrighted material. This is just an example. (= )

I voted for World, because I feel that in a situation like this where we are going for a fantasy map, I would much rather see some kind of 'fantasy world' rather than a battle or continent or country. That's why people should vote World!

anamainiacks, this poll is for scope, what you are after is the next one which will deal with theme. The three maps you talk about, I would very easily put into the battles realm. It will be up to the map maker[s] to come up with the final idea[s] based on the results of the polls. Not to worry, all aspects are covered. But because of the second polls results with size, some options have been closed. Again, it will also depend on the results of this poll on how it goes next.
iAmCaffeine wrote:Alternatively, would it not be an idea to have a poll for a geographic map or non-geographic? So Midgard, Midkemdil etc. would count as geographic and 8 Thoughts, Madness etc. wouldn't.

Plenty of polls to come. But as I said to anamainiacks, those come in the battles realm.
macbone wrote:But no city option? No cosmos? =)

Cosmos, we already have space maps, another one would be very similar, hence hte reason to exclude it from this weeks poll. City falls under battle.

Seems limited for fantasy setting. Went for world as gives broader spectrum and can be designed to incorporate the others. World may just look like 1 continent, or have battle going on.

Changed my vote to battle since that can lead to the more unorthodox gameplay and maps.

i vote battle because I feel that they usually require a more complicated strategy with a better chance to come back from a bad drop

What would we call it?

Battle of the Chocolate Munchkins?

...Well that sounded racist. Unless you're getting Dunkin Donut Munchkins.

Damn hindsight.

Voted for World.
Why? Making a world, not like the existing maps, is a big project. The GCCM is also a big project.
I think you boys need a challenge! This could be one. ;-)

Voted for battle. I think that making a fantasy battle looks epic. It will definitly push the limits of our imagination and who knows if CC is not responsible for a big Hollywood script in the future :D

Some of you have asked why the poll is like this, this week. Well, here is the explanation for it.

You have to take it all in scope, not theme.

A world map would really let the imagination flow. Imagine another Classic map but set on Mars or Europa. Not with cities like New York or Berlin, but land marks like Olympus Mons or Tharsis Bulge. But also thinks of HG Wells, Peter Pan, OZ.
A continent would allow a massive war to take place. Not unlike our WW2 maps. When you think of this, think Lord of the Rings.
A country, you have to think Beowulf, Outer Heaven or Archenland.
Battles, well this is just self evident. Small scale battles take place throughout fantasy, from the mind games played by telepathic people to space battles in Star Wars.
If I was to name this list of choices as maps we have, I would place it like this
Classic
World war 2 Europe
Age Of Realms
Trench Warfare
It all comes down to, how gritty do you want the map? How close to the action do you want to be? Personally I like to see the red glow in the eyes of aliens just before I kill them.

I vote for a map of a world.
WHY?

As was said prior this is limited to what the mind can imagine. I would envision a map that would include many worlds. Each additional world can only be reached by completing the objectives for each world... ...Now that would truly be a map that a conqueror could love

I am completely undecided... the options with fantasy are so broad.. it's hard to be sure what would be the best fit!

i voted battle because there are many different aspects that can affect a battle water ,terrain , strategic moment weather etc ... that can all be incorporated into a map
