Togo, Argentina, Greenland, Benin, and Jordan.

He says he's called Innis, by the way.
I asked him what his parents were thinking - he told me he's been asking himself that for 30 years.

historical fantasy is my choice! whether in the realms of king arthur, norse gods, the pharaohs or something completely different, there is plenty of fertile ground for the imagination to bring forth a truly original work.

With just over a day left to vote on this, it is split between 3.

Considering low has Game of Thrones, Dark has Twilight and contemporary has Harry Potter, three of the biggest fantasy names over the last few years; surprising they have not gotten more votes.

IKR! I really wanted Contemporary initially (not just because of HP), but since it looks like it isn't going to win, I had to switch my vote to one of the others...

Unfortunately it is misleading. I notice the votes for High Fantasy have pulled ahead again since you inserted "Lord of the Lings", but we are obviously not going to be making an LOTR map.

The categories were clear enough as they were, they didn't need "examples" which just serve to prejudice the vote.

My apologies if this made things worse. I am not terribly familiar with the distinctions b/w different types of fantasy, and thought if 2-3 examples of well-known books or movies or tv shows were posted, it would helpful to those like me.

Honestly, I do not see what was done as influencing people. Many many times has a person come in asking for a game of thrones map and low fantasy had low votes.

I know, and the Science Fantasy category doesn't even include Star Wars, arguably the most well-known science fantasy of them all. In truth, you could argue that most science fiction is in fact science fantasy, and many bookstores include science fiction in the fantasy section. But in defense of Jane, she did specify books, not movies.

Also, many of these categories bleed into each other. Harry Potter, for instance, is both Contemporary Fantasy and High Fantasy.

Other examples of science fantasy:

the John Carter series
Terry Brooks' Shannara
Dragon Ball Z

More Low Fantasy:

Conan
The Green Mile
Preacher (wow, a map based on Preacher? Sign me up!)

A Song of Fire and Ice is actually High Fantasy, not Low Fantasy. It has dragons and supernatural entities, for one thing. Low fantasy is primarily set in the "real world," whatever that entails, while high fantasy takes place in a completely fictional world with its own laws of physics.

Other high fantasy works:

The Northern Lights
The Chronicles of Narnia
Dungeons and Dragons
Wheel of Time
Discworld
The Dark Tower (elements of the supernatural, magic)
Harry Potter (yes, it takes place in the contemporary world, but most of the action takes place in the wizarding world, which is definitely High Fantasy - wizards, dragons, mythological beasts, etc.)
Alice in Wonderland
Malazan
The Black Company (yes, it's dark, but it's in a different world with its own rules)

For Contemporary Fantasy, you could have things like

The Dresden Files
Fables
Thor (high fantasy as well)
Hellboy (as Lovecraftian as comics get, so dark fantasy, too)
Preacher (again!)
Harry Potter (fits here, too)
Lewis' That Hideous Strength
Mary Poppins (hah!)
His Dark Materials (again)

more Dark Fantasy:
The Dark Tower
the Elric books
The Black Company

So don't despair! High Fantasy is a broad enough category to contain many different types of maps.

A great week here on #GCCM. We start looking away from graphics and into game play. This week, we will look at types of bonus regions you want to use.

Continental
Most maps use a continental bonus system. Hold a set region to get a set number of reinforcements.
Resource
Look towards AOR series for this one. Hold two connecting regions for a bonus. Bonuses can expand heavily and fast with this type.
Continental with key
Two maps come to mind here. Supermax (Gang boss) and Rorke's Drift (chieftain). Hold as many regions of a bonus area as you like, but until you take the boss, you get nothing.
Expanding
Antarctica has this. The more you hold in an area, the more you get. Does not need to hold all of it and no key is required. Vertex and Austrum also use this type of bonus but for them, it needs to be connected.
No bonuses
As it says. No bonus regions at all. If this wins, auto deploys will become as must feature on the map.

All clan games have been sent out to champion. Normal sitting rules apply. Join one game from each PM. If you are not sure, ask. You have 48 hours from this point on to join all 5 games.

Good luck.

For this week, I chose Resource style as there practically only 3 maps on the site based on that gameplay (and that would be AoR's)

And you have to ask yourself why? With over 200 maps, why only three of this type? What makes map makers hate making this type of map? Why are those three popular maps, is it because of the resources?

And I went with Continental (with key) - Conquer Rome is another example of this type.

It makes for different game play, and some parts of the bonus are more strategic than others.

I also voted Resource!

However, as a point of information, I have to correct you: there are other maps that use Resource collection bonuses -- Dawn of Ages and Age of Merchants pop into my mind as obvious examples, and I'm sure there's others.

Continental with key, we can have some fun here

Second choice for me would be no bonuses!
