Themes Debate (Another Category)

I ended up with seven that I felt comfortable with. Everything is open for debate, including the themes themselves, but arguments against the current themes should have lists along with them of how their suggested theme set would go.

The Whole World - No matter how odd their presentation, these are maps of the entire world as we know it.

Continents - These are maps of entire real world continents.

Countries - These are maps of a single real world country.

Regions - These are maps of a real world region, although they may not be set in their modern time period.

Fictional Geography - These are geographical maps of made up regions.

Battles - These are maps of wars that took place in the history of the world or are simply representative of giant battles in general.

Abstract - These are maps that don't fit anywhere else. They may be board games or simply unusual themes.

Thanks for clearing that up, figured I was wrong when I placed them.

Edit: Updated main topic to reflect this.

Well civil war is definitely designed to be about the civil war. A lot of wars are regions too. Battle For Australia falls into a similar category.

We could add a real world regions at war category, but that's both wordy and I'm not sure 4 or more would fit into it.

USApocalypse is a bit too far out for me to want to put it into a real world regions category. :-k

I'm actually willing to put lots of things in multiple categories, but my top adviser, who shall remain nameless, led me to believe that was a bad idea.

I think... I don't remember if they were for that or not now.

I remember an argument against being that the point of these was to not end up with lots of big lists full of things that could be taken more then one way.

suggested changes above in bold
Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

yeah but than again who shall say something like duck end cover is it a battle or a region?

maybe make region more specific so you have allot of small lists.

and than you can place thins in multiple (prob 2) categories

Some definitions for Geography
1. The scientific study of the Earth's surface and its various climates, countries, peoples, and natural resources.
2. The physical characteristics, especially the surface features, of an area.

I guess under definition 2 space and solar system could move...

Maybe I should just make USA a category. We have 4 or 5 that would fit better there... And at least two more up and coming.

Space and science Fiction arguably merits its own category

if i remember correctly i kept saying that putting a map in several categs is silly. and if i also remember correctly most of you shot me down for that

Most of these look good

Except
Circus Max - Ain't no battle!
AOM -> Isn't a battle
American Civil War -> US maps.
Berlin isn't a battle either. It was after WW2 and part of the Cold War - no battle just lots of aggression!!

THe other thing is "Region" is a bit weird - it seems to be either "Lots of countries but not quite a Continent" AND "An area that's not big enough to be a Country"

<offtopic>
I still find it amusing when DiM (who's first language isn't english) can spell better than most of the english speakers here!!!

considering the fact that i started learning english since i was 9 (i'm almost 26 now) and the fact that for the last ~10 years i've been using it daily i can safely say i have more english experience than many 12-15 year olds that roam these forums.

oh and i'm usually careful about my spelling which most people aren't.

except for that horrible mistake that will haunt me for the rest of time when i said:

Kindof agree with DiM on USA - either that or put everything that's US in there...

Great Lakes, Civil war, Puget Sound(?), San Fran

then if he puts all that under usa why not make an europe categ and put all the european countries plus circus maximus d-day alex empirebenelux british isles iberia berlin actium east + west front.

i think removing usa is better.
