The Foundry Newsletter: 16th Issue

Greetings all!

Another issue, filled with the Foundry's latest. Before I cover that, I'd like to give special notice to the Foundry Discussion forum. Of late, there have been a lot of good discussions about how the Foundry operates and whether that should change. Most have been outgrowths of reasoned complaints and the resulting dialog has been very interesting to read and participate in. This is the community at work, and I'd like everyone to take a look at new ideas for running Foundry Competitions, better ways to use the Ideas subforum, the importance of graphics in the mapmaking process, and streamlining of the Foundry process. Voice your opinion while the gears are turning, and you might see your idea come into existence.

Now the Newsletter. We're positively bursting at the seams with new maps covered this issue. The Drafts forum is nearly filled to overflowing with maps from both new and experienced mapmakers, and that's finally pouring over into the Newsletter. Due to two different people being without the time to write an editorial, we don't have one this issue. If all goes as hoped, we'll more than make up for that in the next issue. A Look Back covers the other half of British Isles, this time with Gimil and the revamp. Spotlight has new mapmakers Premier2k and NemesisChild and their map Atlantis, as well as an inside look at how Zeak decided this issue's interviewees. Community Perspective returns at last with your votes on your favorite Conquest map. And finally WCA's Tablet looks at the entries he got for his mini-competition, all of which I must say look rather good.

One last addendum: this issue we're trying out the show/hide (spoiler) blocks. It reduces scrolling a lot, but we'd like to see if you guys like it or not. Please respond to the attached poll.

Make sure to check out the announcement,

The Foundry Newsletter is starting its own competition. As you likely can tell, we've had our current section banners for quite some time now, and when we've added new columns we've had to use really big text to set the title apart. We'd like to replace those banners with new ones, and we're holding a competition to decide whose to use. Full details are here. Hope to see your entry soon!

In this section we cover every map presently in development. Each map is accompanied by a brief description of the map's theme, graphics, and gameplay, as well as what's been happening in the last couple of weeks. Finally, a link to each topic, the map's creator(s), and what stamps it presently has are noted.

This week we look at the British Isles Revamp from another point of view - that of the revamp artist, Gimil.

This issue we spotlight the Atlantis map, made by Premier2k (P2K) and NemesisChild (NC). P2K focuses on the gameplay of this map, while NC does the graphics.

For his second image, RJ changed things around a bit from his first submission.
This one has more of a cartography/mapmaking feel, with the paper texture and grid lines in the background. It looks like it could have come straight out of an old book of maps.

GASP! thats how I had been making mine to look!

just slightly different :)

the basics are alike tho, and some of the colors, but yea :)

another great issue guys =D>
