I vastly prefer the older version, it seemed much fresher and much more unique than the current suggestions.

I appreciate the comments everyone, especially the support of the original version and the critiques of the possible new version.

Development has stalled for the moment, but hopefully we will be able to forge ahead in the near future ;)

As far as the question of will-people-know-that-this-is-essentially-a-better-Classic-if-it's-not-called-that, why not put World Cities at the top of the map list, before 8 Thoughts, with the other Classic maps? It'll send the signal while keeping this map independent.

I was just shown this map by someone else, and all I can say is, this is exactly what this site needs.

Bravo Sully!

Take your time, but please don't let this die!

Until that happy day when the map browser is organized in other ways than (mostly) alphabetical, this is just the right thing to do.

Agree 100%, maybe I'll finally be able to join more than the 10% of majors+ games because they'll be on maps that have graphics rather than a set of boxes. :)

Thanks for the map, Sully.

Hmm, I was thinking that maybe if you connect Delhi to Istanbul that could really add some excitement. =D.
Just because I think it would make a better flow between europe and russia, also making the 5 more proportional to the area bonus.

The gameplay right now is the same as on the classic map.

It is the same as the classic maps but not the same as the original map this game is based on. Chicago should also touch New York to be 100% true to teh original games gameplay.

Well now I'm all confused, because that picture has dice in it. We don't have any dice here, and I have no idea what the physical manifestation of an intensity cube would look like. :?

Awesome map!!

I know the graphic stamp has been given but I just think the Title doesn't fit well in the feel of the map.
No Idea what to suggest as better mind its just an opinion

so is this still alive?

When will it be at an end?

I'm REALLY sick and tired of having to hunt for where territory names are on the Classic Art.
Can't wait to play a REAL map again...

I quite agree. That's why I have never bothered to try the Classic Art map, and always use the Classic Shapes. At least the names of the regions there tell me what zone they are in. That, incidentally, is why I like the naming with Greek letters on the Atlantis map(check it out, plug, plug!)(You're welcome, NemesisChild and Premier2k.)

[disclaimer]The following comment is completely pointless.[/disclaimer]

Maybe switch the position of the Canada or China flag with the flag next to it, so that there is not one mass of red next to another.

Just a thought. Doesn't matter at all though.

The flags are alphabetical by country, but if they were arranged arbitrarily I would consider rearranging them for aesthetics.

But now that you made me look at the flags I see that the Large map has the top border at both the top and the bottom. Therefore your comment was not completely pointless, it just didn't hit the intended target!

The Classic Map is being Revamped

For those of us who have been here some time, the loss of the Classic Map was a sad day. The invasion of the Shapes was something that not even HG Wells or Arthur Clark had foreseen. From the pit of despondency, an elite squad of mapmakers were thrown together to assemble a replacement, and thus Classic Art was born! (Although Turtle World was almost a strong contender)

The time has finally come for Classic Shapes to be reinvigorated and be given the facelift it so strongly deserves and needs. The mapmaking elite - in consultation with the foundry moderators and lackattack himself - have given the green light for the map-formerly-known-as-world-cities to be revamped as the New Classic Map.

In order to proceed as a full revamp of Classic, there have had to be some changes from the map-formerly-known-as-world-cities. There can be no going back from here - so here's to a brighter, Classic future...
