Accused:

Adolf Hitler1933

The accused is guilty of:

Being Multis
Bigotry

Comments:

Multis have a very distinctive smell, and I'm smelling it right now.
For the bigotry part, I don't know exactly what CC's policy on usernames is, but Adolf Hitler1933? I don't think this should be allowed.

Yeah, let's expunge Hitler's name from every history book and scrap all the WW2 maps on here in the process

It's a wargaming site for Christ's sake. If someone wants to wear a target on his back by calling himself Adolf what's the problem? Or should we only use monikers such as Pink Fluffy Bunny etc?

IT is intentional from his Username though, 1933 was the year Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. In other words it was the year that he rose to power. He inactted the Nürnburg laws two years later (1935ish) which were his stepping stones for his "other" programs. So yes, people can take offense at the username. And its because its CC/ and a public site that they need to be harsh on this. You can pick just about any username you want that don't include Hitler, or others from Nazi Germany. ITS because its free, public, and a site where there aren't millions of users, that finding an acceptable username for both yourself and the community should be relatively easy.
It casts a bad light on CC in general if they let him keep it IMHO.

Personally I find this comical rather than offensive. On a technicality, I don't believe it's bigotry to call oneself a name; it only becomes so if one propounds the views that the name embodies. Extending smegal69's point (and should that be banned because '69' could be seen as rude?), we'd have to lose anyone who mentions any conquerors - Attila, Ghengis, Caesar, any mention of warlords, kings, knights, fighting, death (eg deathcomesrippin - that's a bit aggressive, isn't it?) etc etc. And wasn't it the Jews who killed Jesus... one could go on.
One has to bear in mind, though, that youngsters are able to view the site: I find names like this far less offensive and worrying that those involving the "beyond the Pale" swear words (namely those beginning with f, c, and n).

Its been said many times but generally not accepted but there has to be some form of intent behind a comment to make it bigotry. If offence was meant by the use of name then its not cool, if it is just that offence has been taken that does not mean the accused has done anything wrong.

Everyone has things they don't like or are offended by. Don't go and look for it, if you don't like it. You can not warp the world to your specific standards and views without offending someone else. As the desire to stamp out anything you don't like is in itself abit bigoted (from Wikipedia):
Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot, defined by Merriam-Webster as "a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance".[1] Bigotry may be based on real or perceived characteristics, including age, disability, dissension from popular opinions, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, gender identity, language, nationality, political alignment, race, region, religious or spiritual belief, sex, or sexual orientation. Bigotry is sometimes developed into an ideology or world view.

You forgot Deng Xiao Ping.

And quite frankly, I don't know why qwert isn't upset by billclinton13, named after the man who authorized the firebombing of Belgrade.

If qwert is upset about Hitler's treatment of Jews, perhaps he is also outraged by the anti-Semiticism of King Henry III who initially resolved to rid England of Jews, but eventually decided that levying rapacious surtaxes on them would be sufficient.

Why not ban shakazulu78, named after a tyrant who organised genocides of neighbouring tribes?

Is not everyone outraged that our fine website is visited by the butcher Robespierre__?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reign_of_terror
On 5 February 1794 Robespierre stated, more succinctly that, "Terror is nothing else than justice, prompt, severe, inflexible."[19]
“ The government in a revolution is the despotism of liberty against tyranny. ”

— Maximilien Robespierre, 1794[20]

The result was policy through which the state used violent repression to crush resistance to the government. Under control of the effectively dictatorial Committee, the Convention quickly enacted more legislation. On 9 September the Convention established sans-culottes paramilitary forces, the revolutionary armies, to force farmers to surrender grain demanded by the government. On 17 September the Law of Suspects was passed, which authorized the charging of counter-revolutionaries with vaguely defined crimes against liberty. On 29 September the Convention extended price-fixing from grain and bread to other essential goods, and also fixed wages. The guillotine became the symbol of a string of executions: Louis XVI had already been guillotined before the start of the terror; Marie-Antoinette, the Girondists, Philippe Égalité, Madame Roland and many others lost their lives under its blade.

The Revolutionary Tribunal summarily condemned thousands of people to death by the guillotine, while mobs beat other victims to death. Sometimes people died for their political opinions or actions, but many for little reason beyond mere suspicion, or because some others had a stake in getting rid of them.

Among people who were condemned by the revolutionary tribunals, about 8 percent were aristocrats, 6 percent clergy, 14 percent middle class, and 72 percent were workers or peasants accused of hoarding, evading the draft, desertion, rebellion.[21] Maximilien Robespierre, "frustrated with the progress of the revolution,"[22] saw politics in a rather tyrannical way because "any institution which does not suppose the people good, and the magistrate corruptible, is evil."[23]

All tyrants are united by the basic idea that the public good justifies killing opponents. Robespierre's victims may have only been in the tens of thousands, while Hitler's exceeded ten million, but their basic presumption -- to end the lives of others to impose a new social order -- is the same.

And thus ends my digression here. If you want to continue this, take it to Shroedinger's Catbox.

To some people this username may be more offensive than Adolf Hitler. He started wars in the middle east and everyone over there probably hates him. He's better than Hitler, but many people probably still hate him.

I'm Jewish and the name Hitler doesn't offend me anymore than the name George. As long as the guy doesn't start preaching, there should be no problem.

he is definitely a controversial character in french history; The french monarchy was a tyrany though that had lasted over 1500 years. Stuff got out of hands the first years when they took over, some nobles that were decent guys and apreciated in their region got blindly targeted. I've had some of these conversations with a friend that is Marquis and another that is Count.
But can you really compare him with someone who went for ethnic epuration, mass torture, created concentration camps to effectively erradicate all races that were not worth living acording to him?
