The background to me, seem as more of an afterthought, just a few military stock photos filtered and quickly added. To go along with this the legend is probably better off being more of a panel, with an appropriate military kinda theme. (buttons, lights, dials, readouts, etc.) The remaining empty areas can either be incorporated into the theme of the top panel, or something similar be added in those areas that could tie things together.

I will look into this.

Now that Transformations are here, I'm thinking of using part of it to making a conditional idea. Basically if you hold a factory and a non-starting fighter, and you lose your factory, you will lose X amount per turn on the fighter until you get your factory back. This would replicate the fact that you lose those fighters due to your enemy destroying them.

You mentioned in another thread that this map will use the new transformations, but I can't figure out what that means! Is it something to do with the factories and building "extra Fighters, Bombers and Hover-Tanks"?

Also, your description of empty regions contains an error. "i.e." means "that is." You want to use "e.g." which means "for example." IOW, if you use "i.e." you'd have to follow it with a comprehensive list of all the empty regions.

I don't have an update yet, but it basically is if you hold a factory, and hold a fighter, bomber or hover-tank, and then another player takes that factory from you, at the start of your next turn you will lose "X" amount of men on any and all of your non-starting fighters, bombers and hover-tanks, However, if you still hold the factory at the beginning of your next turn, you lose nothing. Does this make sense?

I'll get this changed on the next update.

thenobodies80 will be posting more about it hopefully soon as soon as he can, but basically here is the basic rundown on Transformation:

This started off as an implementation of koontz1973's Suggestion Increasing / Decreasing Neutrals..

However the concept of Transformation takes this idea further to include the general ability to apply rules that transform any territory in different ways. Transformation rules, called Tranforms, can be applied:

  • to individual territories, or to every territory.
  • at the start of every turn, every round, or at the start of specific rounds
  • to neutral armies, player armies, opponents armies, or some combinations of these
  • to set armies to fixed amounts, change by fixed increments, change by fixed percentages, or make random changes within a range

Also this may work using a condition, which means if you don't hold region A then the transforms would be activated, while the opposite is true, if you hold region A, the transforms will not be activated. Stay tuned for tnb's post on Transformations!!

Just throwing this version out there to get - hopefully - some feedback.

Adding in TV monitors and placing the individual sections of the legend in each montor.

Monitors, great concept, but having them look like stock flat screen TV's... not so much.

Take some inspiration from scifi type movies and TV, a little Tron, Star Trek LCARS, and then sprinkled in with that slightly retro American military feel, a-la Wargames and I think may have something. ;)

Well the screens represent viewing from a satellite/drone camera. Though I can't do too much with them cause you still have to read the text clearly. If you look at the fighter screen you will see what I'm talking about, ya know something like this:

I like the panals, but as you said, think drone strike. Imagine you are one of these future warriors conducting this battle. How would you have your layout?
Something like the top half me thinks. ;)

The top half is basically what I'm working towards. I still have a lot of fiddling to do with them. I want to include a mission brief in one monitor if I have room.

Changed the layout to give more room for the legend, made the text a tad bit larger and bold and a few other things.

Much better for the legend. I know I said I would find things for you to do but this is not them honestly. ;)

How about trying to give a 3D perspective to the screens? Like a computer monitor seem from a side angle. But the lighting is of on the borders of the panels now. You have the light coming from the top left but you have light and shade next to each other from the 2nd, 3rd & 4th column.

Yes I am still working on all of that, I just wanted to get this up and get the few people who come in here to comment and make suggestions.

meanwhile Gilligan is doing the XML, and once he is finished we will get this over to the test site to test out the new conditional transform feature bigWham coded in for this map. I have to redo the wording for the factories in the legend, so ignore what it says for now. Thankfully I have room to expand height wise if I need it, so stay tuned!

Just a quick update. I needed to reword the factory part of the legend, and in doing it I had to increase the height of the map slightly.

The concept is still good, and I like where its all going isaiah. The big thing that is really bothering me right now is the cut && paste quaility of the monitor frames. Its seems to me that they are the exact same frame copied and then scaled to fit your need. Other than that a few minor touches should create that look you are aiming for. Add a light layer of glare to create the illusion of a glass screen, and change the uniformity of the background of the screens, and little(and I do mean little) bit of static or interference to at least a couple of the screens.

Yep working on this as well. I just wanted to get a feel for how this looks and such. Actually, a couple of screens have a bit of noise added to them already. ;)

If you can swing it space wise, putting in a screen or two that is all static, denoting loss of video feed and the peril the USA would seem to be facing on all sides would go a long way to setting the tone of your theme here.
