I think the thick black outline makes it look more impassable. It certainly jumped out at me this time that way.

It does that, but it also kinda makes it look it doesn't belong on this map.

When you look at the frames(ornaments), the title, legends, and most of the territory borders, it's all faint and delicate lines, which gives the map it's clean and beautiful look. But the big old UN buffer with the thick black lines doesn't seem to fit in this picture.

That's why I suggest making the outline thinner, and making the zone pop out to make it noticeable.

I like the look of that. Don't forget to touch up the UN Buffer Zone icon in the legend to match the new improved style.

I don't like how the UN bufferzone is all generic 3d... and the flags seem unrecognizable with the perspective.

lol...

i can use the old flat flags....it's the same for me.
But the UN zone is nice (btw what do you mean with generic 3D? :?), so i'd like to leave it as it is now.

I mean that it looks generic, as in anyone with photoshop can use the filter and make it like that. And it clashes with the rest of the map, which has a rather 2d look to it.

I think it might look better if it was less "rounded", ie. if the bevel was sharper... this would give it a sort of a wall-like look.

What I mean is something like this

The UN Zone is not a wall and i don't want it looks like a wall.

mmmm......i think that IH spoke right.
Let me try a only 2d version.

Ok, another idea: how about giving it a different texture than the rest of the map?

That's just what i had been thinking. Just a simple pattern like a herringbone or a weave might make it distinctive, without suggesting that it is a wall, or a paved no-man's-land, or anything else that is not.

ok, the point is that the UN Zone is impossible to represent with a symbol, texture, ect on a map because it's something really complex. The large gray line is the best result, what we have done in those days is just going around imo. But it's ok ;)
Anyway, considering that i think that it doesn't look bad and that it's clear its main purpose as impassable...i'm happy with the UN Zone as it is on version 6.1
I'll do better british flags because they look weird.

IMHO I believe the UN neutral zone is fine the way it is as andy as stated. Still waiting to play. :-^ :-^ :-^

thenobodies80, I like your map and gameplay from start. and I have nothing against your UN buffer zone and I never understand why CC has so big demands...

o.k. maybe you could do un buffer zone as wire fence? maybe (where is enough place) with small watchtowers?

Unless it was done really well it would look cheesy and out of place. I think it's better to keep it abstract.

I'm not sure about the green on the mini map since there isn't any green on the actual map. I would use the dark brown of the Limassol bonus.

I´ve meant it more as only to insinuate wire fence. there is small ship (to insinuate connection between British bases, there are small flags to insinuate British zones, the are 3d mountains...)

I'm wondering if it might look cool to fiddle with the colouring - so it is dark in the middle and lighter towards the edges (or visa versa). At first glance it could be mistaken as a wierd river, although once the map has been studied that perception disappears.

In any case, it is fine as it is in my opinion.

Nice work nobodies

Hm, barbed wire borders on the buffer zone (similar to Poland impassables) could look OK.

It's not CC, It's the people...you, me, everyone

theBastard wrote:o.k. maybe you could do un buffer zone as wire fence? maybe (where is enough place) with small watchtowers?

The pics show only the touristic side of the green zone. But it's more complex, in some parts it looks more like a war zone: Empty houses, random barriers, abandoned hotels and also an airport; in other parts is only fields. Look here: http://www.richwainwrightphotography.co ... uffer-zone
Draw all that mess instead of small gray line is something impossible to do; also make it like a wall or barbed wire is the same thing imo because they won't represent what the UN Zone is. For this reason i'd like to keep it generic. Someone will think that it's a weird river, someone else will learn something more about cyprus and someone else again will simply play the map. The important thing is that everybody understand that it is an impassable. ;)

I'll try with a dark brown :)

i'll post an update asap, thank you all for supporting this map :D

Looking good in here.

I vote for minimap with brown, simply because it matches the rest of the map and doesn't introduce any intrusive new colours (such as green) to the image.

The font is good, and legible in all areas.

I feel that the map border could be improved slightly - made to look more natural. Perhaps take a look at Peloponnesian War, which uses a very similar border, but looks more natural due to areas of slightly darker, almost grungy texture.

Also, I'd like to see an update to the British Military Bases legend as such, just for the sake of being a perfectionist:

"...and revert to neutral if held."
"...and revert to neutral 888 if held."

And if it's not too difficult to adjust at this stage, the narrow Kythrea-Dhekelia border could be made to look a little more obvious.

About the military bases: how about colouring the entire territories with the flag colours - just making them a bit faded so army numbers will show.
