Here is an updated map. The hill tops can all attack each other. So each hill top has 4 possible attack points. Some people seem to like the abstract version. I am looking into the City version as well. This map is easier, however, in abstract. In my opinion.

I was going to pursue a city type map like one that andy suggested in the map ideas thread, so if you would prefer to use the abstrat I will try my hand and see if people like what I can make.

His posts are on this page: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... c&start=30

I think I've changed my mind about this map. I like where the visuals are going and the simple geometric theme has really grown on me.

I would like to add a simple but, at least in my opinion, interessing suggestion, changing the top hill rule in the following way:

-each top hill could attack and fortify a lower top hill only

In other words, I am suggesting a one way attacking and fortifying solution for the top hills..

This idea is interesting, but some things should be clearer:
Whats an white group? Those should be well limited...
The connections between the hills arent clear, too.

About the city idea, wouldnt the names of the territories be big? What were you thinking about names?

Here is another update with territory names and better defined attack and fortify paths between the hills.

From a logic point of view I would exchange red hill shape with the green one: I mean for the bonuses it's more logic that conic hill hold the maximum bonus while exagonal pyramide the second high bonus.

So you only need to exchange hills shape between green and read one.

actually. The highest bonus should be red with 6 sides, green with 5 sides, blue with 4 sides, purple with 3 sides and yellow with 1 side(circle)

What I would do is set it in the Himalayas and call it "King of the Mountains" and turn all of the small continents at the bottom into Nepali villages. It has more appeal than an abstract map. Playability wise, its very good. Keep working on it!

I like King of the Mountains. Should I have all of the Mountains the same shape. The colors would stay the same but I could work on the shape and make them more abstract.

I like the idea, but the geometric shapes aren't very appealing to me at all. They don't interest me.

I like the way the map looks. It is very cool and different than anything else out there. I would think that it would be cool if one could attack mid way up on the three big hills. It would give it a few more borders. I was looking at the Blue Hill, and it has just two borders; B1 and the top. Instead of B1 going to R1, you could have something like B4 to R4.

to me it looks like the whole thing is floating in the sky and not really grounded. the "ground" as it is now is not in the right perspective. the gradient lines are all parallel at the moment. maybe try making them get slightly closer to each other at the top of the map...so that they eventually converge at a point in the distance.

overall though very creative idea. nice job!

Comments:

Top blocks: the halo yu made around them made the boundry's look undifined. (look at pink)
I like the goniometric shapes, and all, but sometimes when a side of the pyramid is faced out of the light, it gets too dark.
Yellows bonus should be 2 I think.

Great concept map, i like the geometric/abstract style. Few suggestions tho:

It looks like the light doesn't match up with the shadows, brightest side is on the right, and the shadows are to the right as well

I think blue should have 2 territories on the bottom or have a link between one of the higher territories with a neighboring hill, its too easy to hold

Maybe add an extra border to white squares, and make the bonus for white territories 2

You don't see the difference in shape from blue to red, maybe make one an octagon, the other a hexagon, or have the 2 side of the pentagon facing out

I will have an updated Abstract Style Map done sometimes this weekend.

It will be called King of the Mountains.

I have changed the way the Kings work. No longer will you be able to attack from each king to the next. There will be heliports in the white areas that can attack all of the Kings.

Updated Pic coming soon

In the poll, where's the Neither Natural or Abstract option...give me something Man Made! ;)

I would like to see the mountains, but I could then opt for the abstract forms like your last image :)

sully800 is setting up the city map. I am going to help him with the final layout and graphics. So we are working on one it is just different from the Mountain Theme. If everything goes right, you will get your "man made" map.
