I'd still like to hear some more opinions on the starting neutrals. How many others think, where, etc.

Also, for the Start Your Own Game screen, what would you like us to call the map? We like to keep the names from getting too long (Cairns Coral Coast / King of the Mountains was about the max really). So perhaps "WWII - Australia" or something similar?

Is adding 'Battle' to the name redundant?

Andy and Gilligan....firstly Andy thanks for Final Forge on this map.

To the name....there was a lot of debate here in australia, and it still runs in the papers from time to time, as to whether the Japanese wanted to invade and capture australia. They were a nation without many resources and their military i believe saw australia as the perfect target to overcome this obstacle. Many people believe they sought to invade Australia, and evidence points to this from the fact that Darwin, Cairns, Mossman, Townsville, Wyndham, Broome were bombed, and several scouting missions by plane were initiatied over Townsville and far north queensland. There was never any invasion of the australian mainland, and most of the fighting campaigns took place in PNG and other Pacific Islands. But there is still beleif and this discussion is refered to that this period in 1942 was THE BATTLE FOR AUSTRALIA.
It is long-winded but that is the historical basis of this map. The WWII can probably be discarded, although that points to this particular time in history.
Also I must add that there were two submarine scouts sent into Sydney Harbour, and a couple along the southern Western Australian coast down as as far Fremantle.

If we get rid of the 'The' it is only 3 letters longer than King of the Mountains.

I still like 'WWII - Australia' better, but if you like 'Battle For Australia' I guess we could use it. :P

Andy...I would like to keep the title on the map as WWII - Battle for Australia...but it can be referred to as WWII - Australia in the map listing if that helps with configuration limitations.

So what is the #1 choice for name display on the Start Your Own Game screen? (I hope you know that's what I've been talking about, not changing it on map image).

Also, anyone got input on those neutrals? Didn't mean to derail any of that conversation.

I'd prefer less neutrals. I think that there isn't enough incentive for players to take over these neutral areas, so they'll be left alone for the most part.

I believe we have 66 territories? Then, I recommend 6 neutrals. 60 is a great number, whether you have 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 players you don't get any "bonus" neutrals. You'll only have those 6. Place them strategically so players have incentive to take them over. Probably on the smaller bonus continents.

What about 2 player games on this map? That is a lot of neutral.

Answered your own question I see.

I don't view this as a problem.

Yes Andy...for the Start Your Own Game Screen I prefer to have WWII - Australia...i figured that's what you were talking about and not the map. This could then become a category in the listing of WWII games.

With regard to Neutral territories....my previous posting on P19 lists the 18...still leaving 48 terts (24 each side of the map so-to-speak) to start play with.

The terts that are neutral are:
Flores
Kupang
Timor
Tanimbar
Ambon
Merauke
Goroka
Fly River
Milne Bay
Kokoda
Lae
S Cristobal
Guadalcanal
Tulagi
Aru
IJN Shoho
Arawera
Madang

This is a good spread of a couple from each of those middle continents.
In order to play this map correctly, I beleive the neutrals should be left at 18, so that one gains the perspecetive of gameplay of the northerns invading south and the southerners moving north and then fighting begins in proper.

While i think it is generally accepted that POLLS are not necessary in many circumstances, because this aspect of neutrals affects GAMPELAY, then I would be happy to advance a POLL for this situation if it is so desired. (oh dear that's so British of me - turn of speech)
