alright, now that we've hit the Forge where's the last-minute problem crew? After what I've put them through, certainly Tisha and Bloknayrb owe me a few rounds of 'Nitpick The Map.'

I'll be away from my home computer for the next two weeks, so pile up your concerns and I'll address them all after the new year. Happy Holidays everyone!

actually, this is the first time I've ever made a map with mountains. I copy/pasted them onto the first draft of the maya map just to get a draft out there, but have since redone it.

Your map is looking great, but i think the city bonus is a bit steep seeing as there is only 4 cities, you get a bonus of one for three cities and then it shoots up to 5. (i apologise if this has already been said) I like the subtle colours of this map although the images that represent the cities just doesnt seem to fit with the style of the map. Other than that is is looking great.
Guys I am intentionally lurking. Discuss; Play mafia, it is good.

I actually agree with you - I liked it better when it was at +4, but I was overruled.

Thanks... I like the look of the cities but I concede that with the lighter colors they do pop out a bit. I'd be open to reworking them if others agree that it's worth doing.

If you have some alternative in mind, I'd be open to seeing it, but if not I'm pretty pleased with the current option. I honestly don't know what a good representation of a Scottish town would be. :)

right, overall I like the little city images... I've toned them down just a touch, as they had the only white pixels on the entire map. I've also increased the point size of the city bonus legend, because it's pretty important and I felt it didn't stand out enough on the small map.

In light of the fact that we chose to err on the side a small bonus with Grampian, I suggest we do the same with the cities and make it +4. Both have four borders - why is one a +3 and the other a +5? As there may be further discussion about the city bonus, I have prepared FOUR versions of the map; large and small at +5, large and small at +4.
large map, +5 cities: http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r76/ ... land23.jpg
small map, +5 cities: http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r76/ ... and233.jpg
large map, +4 cities: http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r76/ ... land24.jpg
small map, +4 cities: http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r76/ ... and24s.jpg

If you all decide you prefer the smaller bonus, balsie will have to update the xml.
XML file: http://h1.ripway.com/rparodi/scotland.xml

Here's the current map, large and small, in it's +5 versions.

Actually oaktown and others, i'm inclined to agree wid you about the cities. Thanks for preparing a map for all occasions.

Lets be democratic about it, i'll put up a poll

You have 20 days to vote (though i'm sure we'll see a decision long before that)

if we use cairnswk's bonus calculator spreadsheet, then the cities (4,4,13,5) and highlands (8,5,4,3) both come out at 5.25, suggesting that they ought to have the same bonus as each other: the fact that the cities can be attacked from 13 territories more or less balances the higher number of highlands territories. this is without taking into account the higher likelihood of the cities player being attacked because he or she is treading on so many toes.

+4, +5 - there's logic in both. They'll be hard to hold, indeed, as you'd be getting hit from all sides by all players. But it wouldn't be unheard of for a player to start the game with all four - especially in 2-4 player games. If somebody got to kick off the game with a +5, the game would be over.

I tossed a vote +4 way...I think +5 may indeed be a little inflation.

Looks like a good map,i don't know if it's been pointed out already but Kincardine is in the wrong place it should be down just east of Stirling.

I just did a bit of research on that... I hope Wikipedia has it right.

It seems there is more than one Kincardine... there's the County of Kincardine, which we have represented on the map, as well as a small town of Kincardine on the Firth of Forth. So everybody seems to be correct.

"County of Kincardine, also known as Kincardineshire or The Mearns (from A' Mhaoirne meaning 'The Stewartry') was a local government county on the coast of northeast Scotland. It was bounded by Aberdeenshire on the north and west, and by Angus on the south... The county town was originally the town of Kincardine (not, as many believe, the village of Kincardine O'Neil, which was in the County of Aberdeen). The town of Kincardine, however, ceased to exist during the Middle Ages."

Balsiefen, are you able to make the change to the xml and post a new link? I'm on a friend's computer, and probably can't do it for a few dys.
