Can a territory which borders the northern part of a shire attack the double shire at the bottom? Maybe just explain the way in which this will function to me in small words.

Is this clearer?
Each shire has two armies, which can attack any army in a neighbouring shire, as well as each other.
Is it going to be worth putting this attack rule onto the map?

That clears it all up for me. I think it should be included, if only because this is quite different from other maps and people like me might be confuzzled. And edbeard's point is another good reason.

I think adding the attacking gameplay rule is important and saves the trouble of ugly lines all over the place.

That is exactly the thought that has been going through my head. For clarity (to avoid lines), my thought is that an army can attack any neighbouring army (ie English or Welsh).

The crossover idea would make for slightly more interesting gameplay, although I'm not sure how to implement it without 'ugly lines' ;-)

I've come over all poetic again...
Exert you power over a whole Shire
and one more army you shall acquire

Groups of armies throughout the land
will yield more armies into your hand

To conquer the land your armies can
attack any neighbour or same-Shire clan
Does the final couplet make enough sense?

Version 4 (22/08/2008)
I've added in some pale contour lines to help indicate the reason for the wonky compass. The compass has been faded into the background a bit more so it doesn't jump out so much. I've tried to smooth the dragon outline a little too...
I've updated the 'poetic' text to include the attack rule - how is it for clarity?
The overlapping army numbers have been nudged around a bit, and I've tweaked a border :-$
On the subject of border-tweaking, I've amended the Flint border to get rid of the exclave  - purely to assist gameplay.
I've run the region bonusses through a calculator and taken off the amount you'd get for holding the Shire pairs. The English area should really be a +5, but I've upped it to a 6 to add to the confusion in foggy games ;-)
Oh, I've also adjusted the Cardigan/Montgomery/Merioneth border to make it clearer.

Mr Benn *waves*

I very much love how this map looks at the moment. I have 1 small annoyance at the moment thou, the water at current I feel needs a little colour. I think a blue glow with a larger spread than that of your continents is needed. Would you give it a try for me please?

Anglesey is an island, which is why the two land-areas don't touch. ;-)
Do I really need to draw in a connection/bridge? Isn't it blindingly obvious that the two areas border? I mean, where else is Anglesey going to be able to go??
My preference would be to leave it as is, unless there is a mass revolution [-X

I spent a while playing around with some sort of outer glow for the sea, but forgot to click the magic 'save' button #-o
Consider this on my (hopefully small) 'to-do' list!

Benny - love it.

Reckon you should go with the English can attack english borders - and welsh current territory - and vice versa approach.

In your rhyme you say... "Exert your power over a whole shire and 1 army you shall acquire" -> and then go-on to mention "unto your hand" for "continent bonuses"...

I'm pretty sure you meant this to mean a +1 "continent" bonus for holding both english & welsh bits? - But Acquire *could* be perceived as meaning auto deploy. (which can't be done of course!)

C.

PS -> I'm assuming your welsh is correct?

Most likely!!! (In fact - most people on this website don't know that autodeploy bonuses exist!)

I myself would prefer some type of bridge or link or something............

However, the map is soooo pretty, I can't imagine putting anything there without it being a blight on the map.....

So I vote that we leave it.

I'm loving this map. I find the doubled armies to be a great idea. Excellent fresh gameplay. Can't wait to play :)

You can't miss this one out [-X

If you show me how to fit that inside a territory (along with the English translation) the size of the village, I'll put it on ;-)

its obviously an island, and i knew that, but usually there are attack lines from islands to land mass right?

Benn - this map seems to be way to big for the regions you are representing. I'm all for big maps, but only if they need to be. We all hate scrolling if you don't have to. You could probably fit this map

Here's what I did - reduced the size.

I hadn't thought about the image size too much - I've just made sure it's within the size limits...

What actual image sizes did you use in your examples? I've just been playing around and think that 650X700 works for the large image, and something like 510x550 would be OK for the small...
