If you can figure out a graphical way, that'd be the best. But I can't see how you'd do it. Text would be enough, though.

Version 5

1. Agripinella name fixed.
2. Outside framework in place
3. some work on the legend, particularly the family unit explanation

Still to do: the mosaic on the gods - working on it.

Question: do you want some slanted roofs on some of the blocks as seen in Sextus' house at the top of the map, to fill some of the real estate and give the map the looks of some housing.

Perhaps a very slight shading - it only needs to be a marginal tint - for each family might help... something like the colour differential on the Middle East map might work, without affecting the overall appearance you've got so far??

But that isn't possible. As you see Julius Caesar has 3 families 'coz he has 3 different wives, plus his fourth family from his parentage. The Middle East map has quite distinct colour variations and there would be too many needed for this map.

Are you intending on keeping the orange numbers (that I'm assuming indicate the family-bonus-value) as they are? I had initially thought they represented some sort of starting army value...

Okay, after looking at this a few times I think I get it. But I think the names are going to present difficulties... i.e. I count four terits called "Julia Caesaris", to say nothing of the various Gaius Julius Caesar entries, or Tiberius Claudius Nero vs. Tiberius Claudius Nero.

How are you planning on differentiating them?

Well the Julia Caesaris may have to be I, II, III, IV (keep them in Roman numerals lest the forum be upset ;) )

Perhaps for Nero and Claudius etc (not Julius Caesar), perhaps their name prefixed by "Emporer"

How would that do?

It's an interesting map, and worth continuing (or at least as much worth continuing as a given egypt map), but the naming system is always going to be an issue. There are like half a dozen names that recur more than once, it's going to be a comprehension nightmare, which may have contributed to the paucity of comments. (for the record, I think the roofs on appropriate terits would look kinda cool)

What if you fictionalized it a touch? At least to clear out as many repetitious names as possible. After all, too-strict adherence to historical reality would seem to be a classic case of function following form.

I like the idea - but the God being attacked by Emperors thing isn't going to work with your current starts.

i.e. if you start with a god - and someone has an emperor and goes first - they're going to kill you instantly.

This is for later - but the bonuses look quite unbalanced...

For instance... Look at Emperor Julius Ceasar - he starts there - and has 3 territories to kill to get a +3 - another 2 for +4 - all protected by 1 border... - Then fairly easy for him to branch North and take over the top half of the map - all for 2 borders (1 for Julius himself - the other for the Julia Caesaris (II)) - this nets that player a +8 for 2 borders... then it would be a simple case of working his way down from the top with all those armies.

Claudius is stuffed if Nero has average dice.

NERO - has a relatively easy start - if he can kill Claudius off.

Caligila has 1 easy bonus - and then a big slog to get a +4.

Tiberius has some options - but has Augustus breathing down his neck.

Augustus has a couple of cheap bonuses - which shoud mean Tiberius is boned.

All the Gods are plain buggered.

C.

PS - apologies for no solutions - I'm thinking about them at the moment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't gods and full-dress emperor start neutral?

Ah - I misread the map - I assumed they were start points.

OK - that makes a LOT more sense!!

C.

PS - forgot to mention - one of you bombardment figs is the wrong colour.
PPS - "wife" is spelt "wifw" in the legend.

Well, speaking of the whole poison/fig concept...

Julia Livilla is a bit hard to get to, and I fear that that would be an exceedingly powerful terit to get on the drop. Perhaps she and Livia should start neutral as well. Controlling one or both of them should be a strategic decision.... could also be interesting if they could attack/bombard each other.

Or potentially be attacked from the gods? (I don't know the history here - but did the gods tell them to do it?)

But neutrals also sounds like a good idea to me.

I kinda like the concept of the gods attacking/bombarding the lethal chicks. Makes them more than just small bonuses accessible only by attacking neutrals.

I do have my moments.

And let the record show that I am in favor of aggressive fictionalization for this map, especially as regards the many names that occur more than once. No one's ever heard of any of the various Julia Caesaris broads. Would it kill the overall concept of the map to change a few of those names? (I'm reasonably confident you would get few, if any, angry PMs complaining about monkeying around with the verifiable history of the family in question, and even so, those few angry-PM-senders are losers and must be ignored).

Version 7.
This opens up Julius Caesar to another avenue of outside attack from Emperor Augustus through adoption - yes there were symbolic adoptions

Also, i have possible solved the Julia Caesaris too many names situation.

and....am trying to bring every name down to 2 where possible.

FOR DISUSSION....there is a possible further link to Julius Caesar from outside attack....if we bring Cleopatra into the picture.....that would create a link through marriage between Mark Antony <-> Cleopatra <-> Julius Caesar and don't forget there was a son to Cleopatra and Julis Caesar -> Caesarion.
Would this be feasible?
