Re: Recon spoils for fog game

I don't see enough upside to this, as this is only limited to Fog of War games.

It would be pointless without Fog of War. Only way a new type of spoil will be implemented, is if it useful with all Game Types. For ex. No spoils - Can be used with every setting. Same with Flat Rate, Escalating, and Nuclear. This will only be affective for FoW games, but not Sunny games. If we started implementing Spoils like this, then people will start asking for Spoils that only affect other game types, like Assassin, Term, etc.

Also, with every other Spoil right now (Besides No Spoils), you have a chance at coming back into the game with a "Cash"

Escalating - May be at a high cash, allowing you to break almost every bonus, if the defender has poor defenses, or you get great dice.

Flat Rate- You may get a lucky cash on a tert owned, and go and break bonuses on a small map.

Nuclear- You may get lucky and peg off their Huge stack, or important territories, such as a Big Bonus.

Now comes to this, how could it help you if you are one of the bottom people in the game, with few territories left?

I was trying to think of a way to add a dimension of "spying" to the game. Recon spoils would be valid for fog games only so the site would have to disallow the use of this for sunny games. The other disadvantage is that recon spoils are no good towards the end of the game.

Another option would be to have "partial fog" (along with Sunny and all Fog) where when a player deploys spoils (escalating, flat rate, or nuclear) then the site also reveals the colour and strength of the territory. For nuclear spoils it would state what was on the territory before it got nuked

Fog cards

Postby Sniper08 on Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:46 pm

Concise description:
  • A new type of add on to spoils , Fog cards allow players to see a region they cash in fog games

Specifics/Details:
  • In fog games,in Classic for example, a player cashes dakar, sydney and chicago and can suddenly see those regions but not the adjacent regions. The regions become visible for that turn and revert back to fog when the player begins his next turn
  • when a player cashes he sees the regions he cashed aswell as getting the troops the cards are valued for.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • adds a new element of gameplay to further enhance the CC experience

I usually don't like new spoil suggestions, but this one is actually interesting.

It is quite interesting. Would be nice if it also revealed territories around.

I don't think it has to be a New Spoils. Could be an addon to all existing spoils, really.

thanks for the positive feedback guys

DoomYoshi wrote:It is quite interesting. Would be nice if it also revealed territories around.

this is meant to give a player a slight advantage not an overwhelming advantage, lets say in arms race you cash the missile launch then you would see all of your oppentents territories if you could see adjacent. Being able to see one territory gives only a small advantage.

i think it does have to be a new kind of spoils, like nuclear was a new kind.

I agree with that. Could be an option to turn on or off, like FoW is. I like it.

because you already get something for cashing other spoils.

if the only way this is worth playing is with round limits then it is not worth implementing. the number of games is too small .

no, your entire arguement is saying this sugg is like no spoils and the games will become stalemates , so why do people play no spoils? should no spoils be taken away because of stalemates? stalemates are now irrelevant thanks to round limits, its your fault for getting into them by not using round limits, so any talk of stalemates as a reason not to implement any sugg is idiotic.

the reason we play spoils is to add something to the game, this does not.

+ the more dominant you are the more useless this option becomes
++ totally useless in Sunny games
+++ very little impact on maps such as the Age Of Realms trio that are full of neutrals

in short, the impact this option would have as an alternative to the current spoils options is so small it is not worth implementing.

because you already get something for cashing other spoils.

But why can't pu get more than one thing? Is it such a problem that you get +2 troops OR the fog revealed.

Yes, it is totally useless in sunny. So, the onlyway it makes sense to me is if you make it:
Fog? Yes No Spoils
As opposed to your suggestion of
Escalating Flat Rate Nuclear No Spols Fog Spoils

I wouldn't play it very often as a standalone spoil.

greenoaks wrote:the reason we play spoils is to add something to the game, this does not.

first , being able to see across the map in fog games "adds something to the game"

+ the more dominant you are the more useless this option becomes

same can be said for nuclear,no spoils, esc, flat rate and pretty much any other setting as people who ar dominant tend to win

++ totally useless in Sunny games

and escalating games are useless on city mogul, there is always a flaw in something but this sugg is for FOG games

+++ very little impact on maps such as the Age Of Realms trio that are full of neutrals

same can be said for nuke spoils, should we remove them cause they have little impact on these maps

in short, the impact this option would have as an alternative to the current spoils options is so small it is not worth implementing.

i can see your point, it certainly would be beneficial to add it onto existing spoils.if more people agree with you then ill add it to the first post.would like to see a sugg mod comment on this.

i've always thought of making a map with a "radar" on it. that you could attack and break fog but not attack anything with it.

i doubt it could be done though. would be pretty neat. you could also shoot down the radar as well.

Don't implement it as spoils, just make it as an option with fog games,
so when you cash spoils you also see regions.
