Staggered Gameplay

In sequential games all is fine and working, at freestyle too. But I guess we can do a good mix of both into a faster pitched and still sequential game.

The way I thought was the semi sequential It works the same way as a sequential instead that the instead of waiting for 24 hours one would wait only 6 hours to the sequential turn.
Let me explain properly. Let's say you are the first to play in a game and then you don't play. 6 hours from your turn then the second player can play his turn, it's open. You can still play as the turn will be open for your whole 24 hours. Then if the second play or wait for 6 hours the third seat can play. All of that while opening spots so from 6 in 6 hours another player can play even if no one played his turn.

The order doesn't change

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • This will have another mode. Faster than sequential but not as crazy as freestyle
[*]This will have a medal.
[*]This will have strategies developed and the game gets a faster pace but one can still have his 24 hours to play.
[*]This will encourage people to play early of maybe someone will delay his play to take advantage of another player play. Strategical possibilities.
[*]This will bring lot's of money to the site(this one is debatable).

I actually like the idea of this.

So, in an 8 player game, one round would only last 44 hours, maximum, instead of a possible 192.

Does have its merit and is plausible...

Like the thought of 8 man esculaters when its big time cashing time will add another dimention.

I had the idea but didn't thought of a good name. I was in a hurry to post the idea.

Staggered is a better name but any better name will do I guess. Lol.

I wonder if it might be better with 8 or 12 instead of 6.

i thought about that too

12 hours means only 1 person will start their turn during yours.
8 hours means 2 people will
6 hours means 3 people will

i decided i like the 6 hours option best as it allows the most interaction & strategy.

When I first saw this yesterday, I was dead against it. So much so that I never bothered to post. But after some time to think, it seems like a logical step forward instead of 48/72 hour games. Whilst those two would only appeal to a limited section of the players, this would bring in a new way to play. It would bring about new strategies for maps, do you play or wait. What if it is your turn when asleep, lots of things that can happen with this. :D

Speed games would have to be limited to the 5/4/3 minute version but allow players to join after every 2 minutes. This would give players enough time to have the choice. But this might be hard to code for speed so if it only went for 24 hour games, I would play it a lot.

Yep. I thought of 6 hours cause it's a multiple of 24 so it would let 3 people join. However it's changeable anyway so it could even be 4 or another number.
I think the concept is good and I would like to play this mode.

one round would last longer, based on my understanding.

<game begins>
0 hours, player 1 can start
6 hours, player 2 can start
12 hours, player 3 can start
18 hours player 4 can start
24 hours player 5 can start
30 hours player 6 can start
36 hours player 7 can start
42 hours player 8 can start
48 hours player 1 can start

or 8 players * 6 hours/player = 48 hours

so 48 hours its gone around... or am i mistaken?

also a question:

lets say its a game, and player one hasnt played, but 7 hours have passed. player 2 comes along and plays. can player 3 play? or doesnt he has to wait till player one has 12 hours waiting?

the answer to this will yield more questions :ugeek:

You're right Paddy.

I think that player 3 should get to go as soon as player two is done... So, there are really multiple game timers in play. Basically, the person after you can start 6 hours after you or whenever you finish your turn. That's how I would do it.

You're wrong Paddy. Rounds are quicker

ATM
8 players x 24 hours = 8 days

what is proposed is
8 players * 6 hours/player = 48 hours or 2 days

lol yeah axectly what chap said, i didnt mean longer than current seq. round max, just that it would last longer than 44 hours ^_^

chapcrap, my quesiton then is...

what is player 1 wait 6 hours and hasnt started.

then player 2 plays at 6 and half hours or something.
player 3 can now start, lets say player 2's turn took 5 mins, so 3 starts at 6 hours and 35 mins.

now player 4 can start, and assumin player 3 took 5 mins, player 4 starts at 6 hrs 40 mins.
then player 5 can start, assuming player 4's turn takes 5 mins, at 6hrs 45 mins.

lets say he ends at 6 hrs 50 mins, and player 6 starts then.
Lets say player 6 takes 5 and ends, at 6hrs. and 55 mins. player 7 starts.

all the meanwhile player 1 is at the grocery store or something.

if player 7 ends at 7 hours, everybody BUT player one has gone. Does player 1 then get two turns? what if he waits 6 more hours, can player two start again? or does the round not progress until after player 1 starts, then the next begins with player 2, and player one has get moved to the back of the rotation?

how to proceed from there, i guess, i where my confusions are~

the other players dont have to take their turns.

if they do they choose to give player A a shot at a double turn. however, they also get a chance to take back to back turns by playing before player A has moved, breaking/reducing his bonuses.

From what I get from this is that player 1 has 24 hours to play. During that time, players 2,3 and 4 can play at 6 hour increments.
So players would only be able to play like this

    Player 1 starts
    Player 2 after 6 hours
    Player 3 after 12 hours
    Player 4 after 18 hours
    Player 5 after 24 hours
    Player 6 after 30 hours
    Player 7 after 36 hours
    Player 8 after 42 hours
But all players will have 24 hours to take their turn. So if player 8 does not take his turn straight away, the 42 hours can become 60 hours. It would have to go like freestyle so player 8 will always get a turn before player 1 can play a second time. Or should player 1 be able to play twice before player 8 has even had a go?

Staggered

not sure who the genius was who came up with that name was but it really describes the way the turns are taken.
