I agree on this proposal. Yes, you can multiple games by opening them in new tabs, but you still can't bookmark a specific search. I'd like to have that.

I just found out that you can bookmark you searches. Although it's a little tricky. Put this in the url field:
Code: Select all
http://www.conquerclub.com/player.php?submit=Search&

and then you add criterias as you like:
Code: Select all
game_number=
game_status=W,A,F | W=Waiting for players, A=Active, F=Finished
map=Classic,Berlin 1961
num_players=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
game_type=S,C,A,D,T,Q | S=Standard, C=Terminator, A=Assassin, D=Doubles, T=Triples, Q=Quadruples
bonus_cards=2,3,1 | 2=Escalating, 3=Flat Rate, 1=No Cards
play_order=F,S | F=Freestyle, S=Sequential
fortifications=C,O,M | C=Chained, O=Adjacent, M=Unlimited
war_fog=N,Y | N=No, Y=Yes
player1=
player2=
private=N,Y,T | N=Public, Y=Private, T=Tournament
tournament=
label=
speed_game=N,Y | N=Casual, Y=Speed

For example, a search would be:
http://www.conquerclub.com/player.php?submit=Search&game_status=W,A&map=Africa,British%20Isles&num_players=2,3,4,5,6&game_type=S,C&bonus_cards=2&play_order=F&fortifications=M&war_fog=N&private=N&speed_game=N,Y

This is a good idea, and I'd also like to see a bookmark option available for preferred game options under "Start a Game."

To have to go through and peck away at all those dots on the screen each and every time you start a game is monotonous, and is a waste of time.

This is 2008 -- we should be able to bookmark preferred criteria!

Ability To Save Game Searches

I often find myself searching for the same type(s) of game over and over. It would be more convenient if I had the ability to save different types of searches in a personalized list. So, for example, If I wanted to find all the 8 player freestyle assasin games that are waiting for players, or all the two player feudal empire games, I could do so at the click of a mouse.

Specifics:
Add a button or check box at the bottom of the game finder menu that says "Save this Search".
Allow the user to give the search a name.
Then show a personalized list of user searches off to the right of the search page.
Allow the user to click on a listed item (via link) to automatically find all the games that match the saved criteria.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
In my opinion, this would make finding and joining the games you have the most interest in much easier and faster.

Although this has already been suggested, it hasn't been talked about to awful much.

What about people that don't want to use Greasemonkey or don't like/have availability to Firefox?

They can try the Saved searches for Internet Explorer script.

Is there a similar script for starting new games?

Auto Game Finder

Could we maybe set something up where we don't have to re-enter the specifics of what sort of game we are looking for in game finder?
I find that most often I am looking for the same general criteria in most of the games I play. If I could do the search over agin right away, it would save me alot of time. Would it be possible to set up a memory for the common criteria so that I don't have to re-click up to ten things over and over again?
I believe this would encourage one to join more games at once, and get things going a little quicker. It seems like alot of games sit for weeks before anyone ever joins them. When you go through the trouble of selecting all the prefered criteria in a game, you just want to find one where there only a few empty spots left, so you can play it right away. However, if I could click once and be at the list I wanted, I would probably join up to ten games a day.
Another option would be to allow one to choose more than one game at a time.

Already been done.

There is a "saved searches" script that you can use to save previous searches for later use.

Installation instructions are on these threads and also in the Plugins & Addons Forum

For Firefox click Saved Searches for Firefox

For Internet Explorer click Saved Searches for Internet Explorer

No, I know. Easy fix for it, though - change the includes.

The script writer is no longer active, so I'm going to move this to another location so it does work out the box but for
now read the thread or just change the includes to

Saving Start-A-Game Settings.

PostPosted: Fri Sep 19, 2008 2:23 pm
by NightWolf
Concise description:
    I have searched this forum, and have found no suggestion whatsoever that mentions this, so I figured I could ask the community about how they think of the idea of having their game setup options saved to be set to their favorite settings, so that they don't have to reset them each time.

Specifics:

    ---Creating a personal save for your settings for creating new games. e.g. always have the radio button for "Sequential Game" ticked, as opposed to "Freestyle Game".
    ---This is not nessesary, but there could possibly be a little listbox in which you could select your saved setting from, of which upon clicking automatically loads the settings referenced from that item.
    ---Since only Premium members can have unlimited games, thus may be creating many, many games at once, this could be a feature restricted to Premium members (This is debatable.)

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
    Reduce the time taken doing the tedious process of checking the same boxes for the settings each time you create a new game.

I don't know where it is in the plugin forum. I cannot find it. Also, not everyone uses Firefox. I just happen to, but everyone else who doesn't loses out.

Saving Game Types

PostPosted: Sat Sep 20, 2008 1:51 pm

Hi all, this is my plan:

Concise description:
  • Because many people play some kinds of games (for instance Doodle Assassin-games) a lot, I think there should be an option to save certain game types. So when you go to "Start A Game" or "Game Finder" there are certain sets of Game Options.

Specifics:
  • so let's say you usually only to start games like this: 8 player, Doodle Earth, Assassin, Freestyle, No cards, Unlimited, Sunny, Speed. you check all those boxes, but instead of "Create" there will be a new button called "Save settings" and you click that one.
    Now there are two options: either there will be a new menu called "Saved game settings" or the list of saved game styles will be in "Start A Game"

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Nobody will have to repeat the process of clicking al the settings of the game type they love so much!

Anybody thinks this is a good plan?
KP

PS: perhaps this could be an add-on like greasemonkey and Clickable Maps? I don't know who makes those add-ons, but please do so :P!

Favourite Maps

<DELETE ME>

</DELETE ME>

Favourite map option :

    Specifics:
    • Being able to make a list of favourite maps, eg classic, arms race, USA
    • When on game finder, having the option to click favourite maps, and the search results will only show those maps,

    This will improve the following aspects of the site:
    • Quicker and easier to find games on maps people like
    • Would make shrub happy

    It is not a site option, but there is a userscript "Games Filter" that can do this. Link
