Sorry, that's a false dilemma.
Nobody throws points away, only multiaccounted people.
Anyone can throw points without a Resign button. Takes a couple of minutes farming. Staff members have done that.

A resign button makes it a lot easier to throw points than losing on purpose. It was abused in the past, that's why it got taken away.
