I really don't want to miss the revived Creationism vs. Evolution debate sponsored by WM, so can I join? I already applied.

That debate is even more hopeless than scoring system reform.

I don't care.

does anyone know the difference between a hybrid seed and a GMO seed? Im growing a garden this year and I want to stick with natural seeds. the folks selling the hybrids say their seeds are not GMO"s and are disease resistant. That's wonderful! But if a disease wint eat the plant and the fruit or vegatable of the plant, then why not? Unless the plant is void of any life sustaining value, ie, nutritional value.

Its known that seeds from the fruit or veg of both hybrid and GMO plants are sterile. Although, they dont like to use that word. They wont produce a plant the following year. Well, why not? Research scientist discovered that the bees are dying of malnutrition because the normal pollen of plants they eat from has been replaced by GMOs, and the pollen has no nutritional value. But Monsanto response was, no, no, no, the cell phones are interfering with the bees signal receptors causing them to die. I guess it depends who you want to believe. So if the seeds are sterile, and according to one argument, the pollen is sterile, and bacteria causing disease wont invade a hybridized plant, then what the hell am I eating?

wat

GM plants have had their genetic makeup altered in some way, usually to provide disease resistance or more robust growth or something like that.

Hybrid plants are just the offspring of two different species, kinda like a horse and a donkey producing a mule. While it is possible to cross two different species of plants and get offspring, usually the genetics get so screwed up that they can't reproduce themselves, and you have to start the process over from the beginning. Similarly, mules can't reproduce, and if you want another one you have to get another horse and donkey to mate. If the hybrids are disease resistant, they are probably getting it from one parent to make up for susceptibility from the other.

BTW I've never heard of GM plants being sterile as a byproduct of modification. If they are sterile, then I imagine they have probably been specifically sterilized for some reason. Profit?

I have no idea how to go about answering any of your other questions.

You are eating stuff that is dead or alive, just like everyone else?
