To play, you must post your gameplay sketch in the competitions section of the Map Foundry. In the title section, put "World Cities" and then the name of your map.

I can't get it, I have a sketch ready, should I post it in this forum as a topic?
Then every body can see it, shouldn't the sketch be anonymous before voting?

The gameplay part of the contest will not be up for a public vote, but will be shortlisted by the CAs.
To take part, simply post your gameplay schematics in this thread - I'll clarify that in the opening post.

edit: To take part, simply create your entry using media of your choice (even scanned sketches are permissible as long as everything is legible), host your submission using photobucket, imageshack or similar, and post in this thread with a direct link to the image embedded within [bigimg][/bigimg] tags.

What about an apocalyptic spin on moscow, would this be accepted, not really interested in competing for it or anything, but i think it would be cool to do the map, would it be alright if i let someone else enter the map?

Looks like they removed the original thread that started this thing. At least I can't find it.

Do you mean this thread?: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=127&t=140158

It had a poll on favourite world cities, and the results match up with the cities featured in this contest.

The first phase of the contest is a free for all - anybody can submit a gameplay design (I might even dog out an old draft of a london map to get people started). A shortlist will be selected for the graphics phase of the contest. (ie somebody might pick up your plan and turn it into a nice looking map )

Can several versions of the same city gameplay design be entered?

I have some sketches for 2 or 3 of the cities. Can they all be entered or can I only enter for one city?

Really-really?! 4 days???

Only the very most expert people with next to no life could finish a map in that time.

Could I get a confirmation that the largest possible map that I can post is 1500x1500 pixels?
Don't feel like spamming the forums with lots of white squares ;-)

The supersize map limits are 1000x800 pixels for a small map, and 1400x1200 pixels for a large map.

For the gameplay schematic, I would suggest using the small image size so that we can be certain everything will fit at that size and remain legible.

ack. But his is just for the gameplay entry. I'm more concerned with what the forum SW will actually accept in term of size (pixels and bytes).

I mean, gamplay entries shouldn't have to adhere to the usual map-size standards, as they are only depicting an idea or concept - not the visual representation of that idea. Am I wrong?

If you work on the basis that your sketch will form the basis of a finished map, then it helps to make sure that everything fits within the required size.

Lotta talk people and I'm not seeing a lot of drafts... I'm working on one of Istanbul myself and will be posting hopefully this week. I plan to put some serious time into the map today.

If this contest goes down well, i mean, if we have a lot of entries, it might be something we can continue onto a new setlist of cities. I see Stockholm is getting some attention.

hmph. So much for theory.

I think it would fit, it's just that the image I'm working from is huge.
I get what you're saying though, supersize it is.

May I point you towards the appendix section of the first part of my tutorial - which explains how to crop & scale images... ;)

I did scale it (and didn't even need your tutorial for that! 8-) ), but this monster started out something like 72k x 72k pixels

No matter, I guess people will just have to zoom around the image. 8-[

A couple of questions before I embarrass myself with an entry.

You say in the first post this will run till April 6th.

Do you mean that all entries must be in by midnight on the 5th (tonight) or midnight on the 6th. Just want to know how much longer I have to submit?

I have noticed some maps with the double ?? in the areas. For the game play section, do I need to put these in? And the neutrals, I have indicated on the map what they are and how they work, but do I need to put the number into the circle?

Would not want you to dismiss my map just because of these silly little things.

Let's go midnight on the 6th, that way you get a little more time to work.

Everything on the map just has to make sense. If a territory starts neutral, then the number should be on the territory somewhere. Simple as that. If it's not directly in an army circle, i won't take points off.
