Really-really?! 4 days???

Only the very most expert people with next to no life could finish a map in that time.

Could I get a confirmation that the largest possible map that I can post is 1500x1500 pixels?
Don't feel like spamming the forums with lots of white squares ;-)

The supersize map limits are 1000x800 pixels for a small map, and 1400x1200 pixels for a large map.

For the gameplay schematic, I would suggest using the small image size so that we can be certain everything will fit at that size and remain legible.

ack. But his is just for the gameplay entry. I'm more concerned with what the forum SW will actually accept in term of size (pixels and bytes).

I mean, gamplay entries shouldn't have to adhere to the usual map-size standards, as they are only depicting an idea or concept - not the visual representation of that idea. Am I wrong?

If you work on the basis that your sketch will form the basis of a finished map, then it helps to make sure that everything fits within the required size.

Lotta talk people and I'm not seeing a lot of drafts... I'm working on one of Istanbul myself and will be posting hopefully this week. I plan to put some serious time into the map today.

If this contest goes down well, i mean, if we have a lot of entries, it might be something we can continue onto a new setlist of cities. I see Stockholm is getting some attention.

hmph. So much for theory.

I think it would fit, it's just that the image I'm working from is huge.
I get what you're saying though, supersize it is.

May I point you towards the appendix section of the first part of my tutorial - which explains how to crop & scale images... ;)

I did scale it (and didn't even need your tutorial for that! 8-) ), but this monster started out something like 72k x 72k pixels

No matter, I guess people will just have to zoom around the image. 8-[

A couple of questions before I embarrass myself with an entry.

You say in the first post this will run till April 6th.

Do you mean that all entries must be in by midnight on the 5th (tonight) or midnight on the 6th. Just want to know how much longer I have to submit?

I have noticed some maps with the double ?? in the areas. For the game play section, do I need to put these in? And the neutrals, I have indicated on the map what they are and how they work, but do I need to put the number into the circle?

Would not want you to dismiss my map just because of these silly little things.

Let's go midnight on the 6th, that way you get a little more time to work.

Everything on the map just has to make sense. If a territory starts neutral, then the number should be on the territory somewhere. Simple as that. If it's not directly in an army circle, i won't take points off.

Actually we were asked to post in new threads..

But since you posted here...

The Istanbul map is nice and straight forward, the Moscow one is surely different. I wonder how it would play out?

At the london map... I know this is gameplay but those army circles are not the right size. you need 22 pixels big. You also want to be sure everything will logically fit into your map. Names and numbers etc. No point to working on game play when it will not fit.

Otherwise nice start.

Good! I'm making sweet love to Moscow right now. With any luck we'll be done in a couple hours.

Thanks for letting me know that, I opened 2 separate topics for them and also wrote about gameplays in there ...

Ok, the contest is over and we've got 4 out of 5 cities represented. I was a bit worried there we weren't going to get much :P

So a big thank you to everyone who participated. The cartography staff will be evaluating the maps for balance and fairness, ect. Once this is done, we will update the first post of this thread with the maps available for the graphics contest. Should it take an unforseen amount of time to evaluate the gameplay maps, the graphics deadline will be pushed back.

Stay tuned.
