Conquer Club chatrooms

Postby AK_iceman on Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:26 pm

I dont know if this has been suggested before, but I think having chatrooms in CC would make it much easier to talk strategy with teammates, especially if you dont want the other people in your game to read it. I know we have pm, but it takes too long and if you are playing a triple game it takes forever.

chatroom

Postby cmeb4udie on Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:32 pm

I agree ak in team play it is necessary to communicate and when you have a live game pm's delay the game quite a bit.

If there was private and open chat it would make games move more swiftly.

If you have Trillian, you don't need to worry about your teammate not having the same messenger as you. ;)

yeah trillian is easy to use, but it'd be even easier to make a simple irc room

trillian is a program that runs AIM, MSN and yahoo all at the same time. Its a 3 in 1 program, so you can chat with people who use any of those mentioned above, all at the same time. So if ur in a triples game, and one of ur partners uses msn, and the other uses aim, well it doesnt matter

ok, thats all good, but what if your partner doesnt have an instant messenger? I still would like to at least see how difficult it would be to add a chat room for them.

not only can you talk to them no matter what they use you can akso invite them to a chat room on trillian and the download is free I invited andy bruce and highborn and if you have mic and speakers you can communicate verbaly with out cost now that is TECH but aaahhh don't let the accents scare you we all write close to the same but when you hear those southern accents you start looking for the coon dogs and shot guns and moonshine

i still think irc is easier tho. it would take 2 secs to make a room, and this would allow anyone to chat, even if ur not in a game atm. Yes i know irc is like 5 years ago, but its still useful for that, or something irc based.

Is it just me or does this entire thread seem like a sales pitch for Trillian? You know one of those ones where the "knowledgable" promoter slowly reveals details of the product, as the "ignorant" skeptical person asks questions, and eventually the "ignorant" skeptical person is won over when they see how great the product is.

There was an attempt by myself way back when to set this up formally as an IRC chan at conquerchat.info, but I didnt have time to maintain it or even finish setting it up. If someone wants to take it over, let me know.

However, Lack and I have been seriously discussing options for a sitewide chat, at least a basic one. The addition of private chat rooms may or may not happen soon or at all tho. Expect this basic chat to come "soon" as it is on the to-do list.

Can we name the system-wide real-time chat the Social Lounge and re-instate Off-Topic Topics?
