I like it, however the pictures could be a bit bigger. The change was not neccessary but it serves its purpose and we'll get used to it

Firstly, the change makes it difficult for those unfamiliar with maps to find ones they want to play.
However I can understand how easy it must make the lives of the CC pros out there.

But be that as it may, it would be nice to have a way to 'un-select' all maps short of refreshing the page.
ie if I click on a map to look at it, then decide that what the hell, I'm up for any map at all, I have to refresh the page to get back to that stage, losing all my settings.

If you've clicked it, CTRL + click it again to unselect it. You can also select more than one map at a time when holding CTRL.
Note: Replace CTRL with the or 'Command' key if you're a Mac user like me.

Indeed. Now that we've saved the page from cluttering, maybe we could make it shine a bit more by increasing the thumbnail's size... Couldn't we?

First let me say that I do understand change happens and we all must go with the flow. Now, that said, my two cents says that i REALLY don't like the new style. Moest of my game chosing is by what map strikes my fancy at the moment. Having to click on on and scroll through tham all to see what they are really slows me down and would possibly cause me to forget the whole thing. Yes I know that some are able to remember a map easily and see them all in thier head but I don't work that way, and by reading this thread I see that I am not alone. I like to see them all side by side and in full array. I do like the YouTube video on the home page...wait, in that video it shows the thumbnail view of all maps. Great advertizement, but we can't see it anymore. No Good in my opinion. At least let us switch it back if we like it the old way. I will say that this new system will stop me from playing new maps simply b/c I usually don't like to take time to look at everything. You may find that many others are in that same boat. Anyhow, thanks for the ability to rant and be heard.

btw, If not for reading this thread I wouldn't have known how to select >1 maps in the game finder section. Maybe a side note on the page for those of us not so computer savy.

p.s. If this change is to stay lets at least increase the thumbnail size so that the height matchs the height of the scroll box. That would be good for viewing w/o having to click on it and xing back out.

Yeah the thumbnails could be increased in size to give a better preview. And gallery of all the maps is a good suggestion that I think lack agrees with.

I definitely like the lack of clutter and I think the new system will be quicker and better.

I may be told to take this somewhere else, but how hard would it be to have a button to "remember my settings" so that I would not have to "ctrl-click" each map I want in my search criteria every time I want to do a search? Sure once in a while i try different maps and/or settings., but I mostly do the same search over and over. With the new system it'll take much longer to enter in the info.

Or how about a "do not include" button for search criteria. For those maps we know we don't play.

I really hate that I can no longer search multiple maps at the same time - this is a real degrade of Game Finder!

I don't know if it's a bug or what-not, but there is no means to de-select all maps once you've clicked one. I would assume clicking the map again would de-select, but it doesn't. Instead, I have to workaround by either reloading the page, or selecting EVERY map.

Same as files on any computer. How easy can it be...

I always lose my search criterion when clicking on the back button. I'd like this to be addressed. Maybe we can have a search preference?

Thanks!

Can't say I am a fan of the new look. Looking at the thumbnails is how I pick which games to start. I like the idea of making this a preference. Is that possible?

The thumbnail list was in itself awe inspiring and showed off how great CC as a community and a site really is...the new way totally eliminates any sense of that.

All you're given now is some text and a stupid drop down with check boxes. Totally bland, boring and redundant. A step back in my opinion to improving CC.

Why select all maps, when you can select none? Are the instructions not clear?
if you have no preference for a particular criterion, just leave those boxes unchecked

This idea's going well, but I would like to see a "De-Select All" option on the map drop-down list. I accidentally clicked one #-o and my game search wouldn't work until I refreshed the page.

The new game finder look really is stupid. Bloody ridiculous having to go through countless searches in order to find a few games to join. I will definitely not be renewing my subscription.

Reading through this thread taught me that the change "helps CC pros point harvest more effectively". Wait, what?

CC appears to be about something other than enjoying a risk-like game. Disappointing. :-s

I prefer tick boxes to be honest, I think the categorising would be the way to go, with the following:

"Geographical - Real World" - Classic
"Geographical - Fictitious" - Disc world
"Non-Geographical" - Dungeons of Draknor

"Classic Style" - USA (Simple Conquering)
"Simple Changes" - Asia (one use of the one way attack), USApocalypse (negative bonuses)
"Non-Classic Style" i.e. extreme game play changes (Circus Maximus, Draknor etc.)
"Feudal Style" (can't think of a proper name for it) - New World, AoR maps, Feudal War etc.

"Small Maps" - Doodle
"Large Maps" - World 2.1

"Current World" - Luxembourg
"Historic" - WWII

"Continental" - we have one for every continent except Australasia, and Antarctica

Rather than using difficulty level use the historic content. Possibly in future allow frequent map-makers to have their own tab, so Cairnswick could have a tab, as could Widow Maker

I liked the old way better. The scroll box looks unappealing not to mention it takes longer to find/start a game if you just want to browse through the maps.
Why the change? Less load on server or something?

The new game start is a ton better. The only reason people are complaining is because they actually have to think about the alphabet.

As for the game finder... I never use that function for multiple maps, but I can see how it can be annoying.

I disagree slightly:
People are willing to put the brainpower into taking over the world and it's subcontinents etc, but are not willing to scroll down a list ?
