Interview with Marval
Our latest installment of interviews, MarVal answers a few questions. All questions are reader submitted, so if you have something you want to ask an upcoming organizer; PM me. Next week’s interview will be with Gozar. If you have not submitted your questions, you have until Tuesday to either PM me, or post in this thread.
In two weeks, our interview will be with pjdonald. Feel free to begin submitting your questions now, I have created this thread for that purpose.

Now, on with the interview.

Q: Hello, MarVal.

A: Hello all international members of CC, I'm glad somebody wanna ask me some questions about me, myself and I ;-)

Q: What made you want to start running tournaments?

A: My first tournament give me the shot to start a tournament. I'm a fan of international football and major of the European Champions League.
That give me the idea to start my own Champions League and I called it:
CC EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2007

Q: Describe the experience of your first tournament ran and first played in.

A: Immediately I new it was a busy "job" to do. You must create games, update the Tournament Table, sent out the PM's for the games, answer all the questions and look daily on the thread. But I love the work and the response you get back from the members. It was great :-)
And for the winner I made this:
    Image

Q: Where did you come up with the ideas for your tournaments?

A: I think my head is flowing over with ideas. I have plenty ideas, but unfortunately no time to make them all at this moment.
I'm not only a tournament organizer on CC, so it’s hard working here to pay attention on the forums. But it’s worth it :-)

Q: How many tournaments have you run and how long have they been?

A: - CC EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2007 (Completed)
- Union of European CC Football Cup 2007 (Ongoing)
- Koning der Lage Landen toernooi 2007 (Ongoing)
- Veroveraars Club Toernooi (Ongoing)
- TO; Qualify, WC 2010 - AFC (Ongoing) *
- TO; Qualify, WC 2010 - CAF (Ongoing) *
- TO;Qualify,WC 2010-CONCACAF (Ongoing) *
- TO; Qualify, WC 2010 - CONMEBOL (Ongoing) *
- TO; Qualify WC 2010 - OFC (Ongoing) *
- TO; Qualify World Cup 2010 - UEFA (Ongoing) *

* = Together with the Tournament Organizers (TO):
- amazzony
- jennifermarie (stepped out, no time anymore. But still make the games of OFC)
- spinwizard (stepped out, no time anymore)
- cena-rules (stepped out, no time anymore)
- and me
So basically amazzony and I run these connecting tournaments

Q: Do you prefer to run tournaments alone or have a long discussion with others and then run it with several people?

A: I prefer to do them alone, but as you can see in a earlier answer of mine I have 1 connecting tournament with other organizers. Spinwizard needed some help for a major tournament. As in my nature I'm willing to help. So I did. Unfortunately they all had no time when we already start it, but with great and greater help from amazzony we still manage to make it happen. Thanks to amazzony =D>

Q: What is your favorite tournament you've run? Why?

A: It will be Koning der Lage Landen toernooi 2007. The reason is that its a tournament with a story. And how further into the story, how closer you get to became the King of the Lower Lands. And the story is in and near the middle ages in the area of the map I made for CC: BeNeLux.

Q: What is your favorite tournament you’ve played in?

A: I should now probably say the ones I won, but the favorite tournament ever I've played was the tournament of FlyinHi, called World Series of Risk. It had a original concept and painful I lost a great battle in the final game against NormalGuy.

Q: With experience comes the wisdom of knowing what mistakes you've made in the past so you can avoid them in the future. What mistakes have you made in your tournaments that you are sure to avoid in future tournaments?

A: Avoiding mistakes I will not make again (I hope):
- Having enough reserve players.
- End the game in some tournaments in a number of Rounds.
- Not all type of tournaments can be played with freemiums in it.
- Good information about the rules and the point system.

Q: Which team would you had liked to see winning the champions league tournament and which club do you hope will win the UECCF cup?

A: The winner of the Champions League is already been known:
    Image
The winner of UECCF Cup must be me with Vitesse Arnhem ;-)

Q: How is life over in the foreign language forums? Do they enjoy a good tournament as much as the rest of us?

A: Yes, they do. We had a lot of fun and of course great battles.

Q: You make some outstanding standings graphics. Do you volunteer these services to others?

A: Not at this moment. Only for our connecting tournaments of TO.
Maybe in the future. Too busy right now on my own tournaments.

Q: What makes you want to use graphic design for standings and not just text?

A: I think it looks smoothly and has a nice view, I guess (I hope).
I like to work with graphics, such as making maps, tournament tables and for some websites I created for others.

Q: How long does this take for you to update?

A: The update itself its not taking so long to make it look graphical. To look at all the games of the tournaments, making the score list that costs time. But it’s worth it.

Q: What are your thoughts on the in-clan tournament issue?

A: I like them a lot. To compete against other clans in several disciplines.
Maybe make a sort of all ranking list Clans or something like that. I know it has a lot of discussion on the thread, but OPs knows what he's doing :-) So we just wait and see.

Q: How is your social life, since you spent so much time on CC?

A: Bad...... No, but most evenings I can do it all.

Q: If you could change one thing about Conquer Club in general, what would it be?

A: Bigger maps to play on, that’s all.

Q: Why did you pick the name MarVal?

A: It has the initials of my real name in it and MarVal sounds like Marvel. My favorite comic books.

Q: If you had to choose a different screen name what would it be?

A: Bounty Hunter after Boba Fett (just like my avatar) from Star Wars. He's my favorite character.

Q: Any tournaments planned for the future?

A: A lot. :-)
I'm working on two tournaments right now. But first must I finished my others, before I start new ones (I hope I can hold them for so long).

Q: Thank you for your time.

A: No probs. Just keep up the good work you do, Gozar :-)
