Re: BOB 5.2.4

Postby riskibiz on Wed Feb 06, 2013 5:13 pm

OK guys, I know you all have busy lives, but I respectfully ask anyone who could help to please lend me some assistance, as no one has come up with a solution as yet.

To summarise:

I have an issue where my BOB menu and related features are not appearing when I am in a game page (just get "BOB initializing" at the bottom of the page when in the game screens). However, if I am in any other page on CC (forum, my games, etc.), the BOB menu shows up where it should.

Periodically, BOB 5.2.4 keeps getting offered to me as "update available". When I click on it, it takes me straight to some long script, but no download or install button in site. This is the page it takes me to: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/52341.user.js.

So I go back and the flashing is gone, Iā€™m still on 5.2.3 and nothing's changed. How do I download the 5.2.4?

Punching my keyboard's f5 key to update while on this page, while in a game, and with that script showing, and nothing has changed - no BOB menu in the games and the BOB out of games still shows 5.2.3. And the flashing notification is off (for a while).

Iā€™ve tried logging off, closing down FF, rebooting, praying, etc... and I keep getting that script instead of a download button

hide menu = off and auto BOB = on
OS: Win 7
Browser: FF 18.0.1
Greasemonkey: 1.7.1
pop-up blocker on

I appreciate those that have responded in some way so far (General Brewsie, ender516, spiesr, Lokinet) but nothing has been resolved.

I don't know what is preventing a proper download. Here are a few wild-assed guesses:
  • Turn off the popup blocker, at least until the script is installed. Normally, when you load a Greasemonkey script, you get a dialog box (which might be construed as a popup) which counts down for three seconds then offers you an Install button.
  • You might try uninstalling the version of BOB you have. It may be damaged in some way.

Thank you so much ender516 and sherkaner for mending the wounds of our premature update. We'll be making more efforts to coordinate with ender and the tech team to test Scripts and add-ons before other site updates to prevent script failures. Again, thank you sincerely for your work with this! Best,

thank you ender516 for the suggestions.
I've done both: turned off the popup blocker AND uninstalling BOB. But still the same problem. I click on the link for BOB at the very first of this topic, but still only get to that script page.

Please, any other suggestions anyone?

Cmon everyone, your lives can't be THAT busy!

Still out of luck here and needing your help!

I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Greasemonkey and still no luck.

Where are all you smart good citizens of CC willing to help out?

riskibiz, sherkaner tells me you two have exchanged PMs about this, and he sent me a copy of his reply to you. Did you explore that userscripts.org forum topic? His link was to http://userscripts.org/topics/36410?page=2, but you should likely go back to page 1 there and read right through. It may a a problem in your Firefox profile.

If it is working for you at all, then it is not the same problem. riskibiz can't install the script. Problems on the game page showed up for freemiums with the introduction of ads. Have you updated to the latest version of BOB, 5.2.4?

What version do you have? (Check the little number next to the BOB Menu.) What browser are you using?

Try this link: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/52341.user.js
(I don't know where you got the 5.2.3.1 thing, but 5.2.4 is the way to go.)

What happens when you try to load the script link? What sort of error or message do you see?

Sounds like it might have been a caching issue, either in your machine or at your ISP. Glad it is sorted out.

chrome continues to give me the message "Apps, extensions, and user scripts cannot be added from this website". I go the chrome web site and BOB is not available to down load from the approved web site. Any suggestions?

If you trust the code, easiest way is to download it, open the extensions tab in chrome and drag&drop the file there. That will start the install-procedure.

I'm having an issue on the Stalingrad map only. It is not correctly identifying the player territories when you roll over the player when the larger map is showing, but works fine on the smaller map. The map inspect is also messed up. In both cases it is highlighting as if the small map was on the screen when working on the large screen. Anyone else seen this?

Try clearing your cache by reloading the game page with Ctrl-F5 (or whatever works in your browser: I speak Firefox).

I bought a new PC and want to install BOB. I installed Greasemonkey. When I go to install BOB, it has all this Whitesmoke junk with it; no biggie, just unclick on custom install. But then on the 5th page there is something called Sendori and I cannot see a way to uncheck this. I have Norton and I do not want any other junk attached to my browser. Any suggestions?

Where are you getting your link to install BOB? I have never seen anything loaded with it. As far as Whitesmoke and Sendori go, about half the hits I get on Google are reviews for add-ons and half are requests to remove these "viruses". I think you may need to turn up the protection in your Norton toolbox if you are getting this much dreck. Also, always watch for extra "toolbars" when installing other software. I have to fight off Adobe's attempts to rob me of screen space every time I update Flash.

I'm getting the BOB link from the one at the beginning of this thread.I have never seen anything loaded with it either prior to this. I will look at my Norton settings as I switched from AVG. I always watch for toolbars, but this Sendori thing doesn't give me any option not to select it. Can you try to download and see what you get?

Why do I feel like you are passing me a bottle of milk and asking, "Does this taste sour to you?" Anyway, I clicked the GET BOB link in the first post, which took me to the userscripts.org page that I expected, and the Install button brought up the dialog box I expected, which counted down 3 seconds then activated the Install button. I then clicked the Show Script Source button and everything looks fine there. So I suggest you examine your Add-ons Manager page and look for toolbars and whatnot that might be tossing extra things into the mix.

I'm on a Mac, using Chrome. After downloading the script, Chrome tells me 'extensions cannot be installed from this website' etc., like it has for some of you. Dragging the newly-downloaded script into the extensions page (which is how you normally install extentions in Chrome) does nothing. It may be helpful to note that as I drag the script from my downloads bar at the bottom of my screen to the extensions window, the icon - a white sheet of paper with the Safari logo on it - appears.
