The point of this suggestion is to first, gather interest in one replacement to go head-to-head with the "?" There is no need to muddy the issue by taking all the support for a replacement and spreading it thin against the "?" in a poll at this point.

There will come a time when the "?" will go head-to-head in a poll with the contest winner.

I am serious about the topic, which is why I originally PM'ed you about it, yet you continue to bring the conversation back to the thread. It is clear that your intentions are to get the topic shuttered, and your methodology is to have an enormous off-topic argument. Unfortunately, you ignored my PM and brought it here, so I am required to respond here, and any suggestions moderator should first, please, discuss this with me before shuttering the topic (which is Woodruff's goal.)

Please explain the irony. I have continued to post here to gather support for a singular symbol that can go head-to-head with the "?" I have done that from the beginning and supported any and all contributions to the topic deemed "entries" into a contest whose goal is to determine which symbol would best replace the "?" I feel that coming up with a consensus on one replacement is better and a more intersting topic than simply stating the following suggestion: "Replace the "?"" I feel that if all I ever said was "Replace the "?"" I would have received many replies saying, "Replace it with what?" So, to spare myself, I came up with a few ideas of my own and solicited the community for additional contributions. The topic IS NOT "Should we replace the "?"" The topic is "Replace the ? icon with "Basic Training" icon" and I am attempting to find out what the community feels is the best "Basic Training" icon. But it doesn't matter what I wrote here, because all you care about is having a debate over whether the ? should be replaced at all. Fine. Start your own topic. Stop trying to silence my desire to see where the community stands on which symbol would be best to be put into a suggestion to replace the ?.

Yes, there is a point in having the discussion. There are people out there with ideas and artistic ability. I'd like to hear from them. I have heard from some and I am supporting those ideas.

As for this suggestion, the contest still runs! As time goes on, if there a no further suggestions, I will amend the poll to narrow it down to the top 3, then the top 2...and finally, when enough input has been contributed, and votes have been cast, I will put the contest winner up against the ?

Reminder about why we are here:

Concise description:

• come up with an icon that could replace the ? icon for new recruits (e.g. an icon that designates "Basic Training" Rank.)

Specifics/Details:

• Currently, new recruits are icon ranked with a "?" which accomplishes the goal of demonstrating that we don't know how good or bad the new recruit is at the game.
• Come up with an icon that is more fitting and less boring to potentially replace the "?" icon.
• Would really work well with my other suggestion to increase the number of games the new recruit plays before they can play all the maps and settings: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=102006

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:

• Might help new recruits to understand rank icons. The "?" seems a bit odd.
• Would be a better fit for the system of rank icons.
• The "?" also denotes regions that are unknown in a foggy game, ergo confusion between same symbol used twice

I don't PREFER to have the thread closed, but I do PREFER to have any poll associated with it be a valid poll, which it so far is not. I actually tend to support QH on this suggestion, and I personally like the dog tags idea (as I said in one of my four posts on this thread). I asked twice (exactly one month apart and immediately after poll resets) why the "keep current icon" option wasn't included. QH said to make a new thread if we wanted to concern ourselves with that question. I was following her advice. In the mean time, I am enjoying my free games jefjef. Thanks for the advice!

I don't understand. Are you arguing semantics here? I'm happy to change the wording in the title for you, but people have been submitting "concepts" ever since AndyDufresne asked for my concept in response #1 to this thread.

Doc_Brown has created a suggestion that posits the question that is burning in yours and two other members minds. The suggestion is, as I stated clearly in the original post, and have restated numerous times, to come up with a replacement that is worthy of going head-to-head with the Question Mark. When I posted the first poll, no one had a problem with it and there were 50 votes. I added some additional concepts and redid the poll. At that point, Woodruff started getting upset that I didn't put "Keep it as it is" in the poll. My poll. Why should I again go back and change it for Woodruff? I changed the poll again and suddenly Woodruff and now Doc_Brown have their panties in a bunch because, again, I left out the "Keep it as it is" option in the poll. Then Natty_Dread started getting upset because he, as entertainment contributor, felt that the word "contest" somehow stepped on his turf. I hope I didn't overshadow Cutesy Club with my "contest."

Why does this trouble you? The suggestion and the point is to gather support behind one concept. If I post 5 concepts and one "keep it as it is", then any support for replacing the ? gets spread amongst the 5 replacement concepts while "keep it as it is" gets all of its support focused into one of the multiple choice options. It seems unfair to force "keep it as it is" as an option in the poll this early in the discussion. To be honest, if qwert hadn't posted his concept, I would have moved it forward with the "dog tags" versus the "?" but I felt I should give Qwert his due, as he has contributed much more than anyone of to this site with his maps and tournaments (and I'm sure there is more...the guy is a freaking genius.)

So, before you let your moderator hammer fall on the poll, could you send me a concerned response via PM without further barraging this thread with what has amounted to a crusade for two other members?
