Adjacent + Unlimited Fortifications

Postby mibi on Thu Mar 08, 2007 12:37 pm

It seems like the most realistic fortification method would be to combine adjacent and unlimited. So each turn each country with more than one army can make ONE adjacent fortification. It seams silly to have only one army to make one move. It also seems silly to have armies fly across the map in unlimited fortification.

Unlimited + Adjacent would provide the best mix of realism and strategy I think.

So what would stop you from making adjacent moves all the way across the board? This just seems like a step-by-step unlimited fortifications.

As soon as armies have been moved into an adjacent territory, they can be tagged to allow no further fortifications for those moved armies.

it wasnt hard for me to leave...not to say it didnt have any cool options...but the thing bumped me every ten minutes and secret alliances are totally permissable......

i did love the two player games though...you could play 10 rt games at once...the team games were ranked seperately than singles too

oh yeah...and i liked clicking the armies on the board....but once lacky gets movin on the updates....this place will be the only one....

conquerclub...there is no substitute...

suggestion: 1 border fortification for all armies

Postby Spritzking on Fri Jun 22, 2007 11:41 am

Suggestion Idea:
I would like to see a mode where all you armies can be fortified over just one border.

Specifics:
I mean that at the end of your turn, every armies has 1 mp. this means that you can move all your armies at the end of your turn, but not over great distances. I saw in luxdelux, that it is possible

Why it is needed:
We have at the moment the folowing fortification table:
............................Long distances.....Short distances
All your armies.........Unlimeted..................?
1 country..................Chained...............Adjacent

This means that we have an fortification gap.
In practice this works as follows. If you play a large map, like world2.1 you can have your armies gathered together in a few turns. (not with chained and adjacent) And after that turns when there starts a new era, in wich you fight from your own continents, you can not easely bring your armies from one battle zone towards the other. This will give whole new tactics to unlimeted fortification...

I think he means Unlimited Adjacent. You have unlimited fortifications, but you can only move each guy once. So, you have, lets say, this lame ass map ("-"'s representing borders):

A-B-C-D-E-F

You can fortify all your guys from A to B, and all the guys that were on B when you ended your attacks to C, and all your guys form E to C, ect., but not from A to C, or from F to C, ect. You also cannot move your guys that you moved from A to B, to B to C that turn.

Yep, it is too confusing. The idea is good but it would be hard to keep track of how many you have already moved. Say you fortify your 10 on A to your 10 on B. Then, it would be very confusing because you would only be able to fortify 10 from B into C. This would get worse if you were doing a lot of fortifications (which often happens near the beginning of the game) so I'm afraid this one gets the thumbs down from me

though written in another illegible language, it isnt a bad idea...it think its a variation ive played on the board to be honest...

I think its been suggested before too..I imagine we will see another fortification option eventually...and it will be something like this

If coded correctly then this wouldn't be too confusing...

Although you would get a load of illegal move messages sometimes!!

I like the premise - but changes in the UI might be necessary to stop whinging!!

basically, each army can only cross one border. To do this right you would have to put a boolean flag on each army after the player clicks the "end attacks" button. To start fortification, each flag would be set to "no" as in that particular army hasn't moved yet. Then, when the army crosses a border, the flag changes to yes and then that army can no longer move that turn.

It's a bit trickier than that though...

You have to be able to display who can still move in the UI...

Something that isn't possible with the way it currently works.

For that to work I would change the Fortify Drop Downs around to be

"FROM" "#" "TO"

Then when you select a From territory it flows updates to the other 2 to only show what you can move from that territory to the next.

This would eliminate the confusion over how many you're still allowed to move for that territory.

C.

PS Remember of course there is a nuance here you may have missed...

On Classic say that you have 3 in Papua New Guinea (PNG), 3 in Eastern Australia. 1 in Indonesia and 1 in Siam.

As it stands...
You can move
2 from Eastern Australia to PNG.
2 from PNG to Indo.

However as soon as you move 2 from EA to PNG... that free up your 1 that had to stay behind... now you can move 3 to Indo...

Once they get there... your 1 from Indo can move to Siam... and of course your 1 from Siam could move to China (Or to indo if you really want!)

Essentially - you could chain 1 troop along to the ends of your countries by moving the guy that holds the territory.
