History of CC?

Can't see it anywhere and would be an interesting/ useful article or sticky.
When was CC born?
Was it an original idea or an attempt to improve/ compete with an existing online Risk game?
Did it start with just the Classic map or were there others? If so, how many, which ones?
Was team play included at the start or did that come later?
When did the idea of clans come about?
How has the forum expanded over the course of time?
Were tourneys there from day one or did they come later?
How were the initial mods selected and roles defined? How does it work now?
When were various settings introduced? (e.g. fog, nukes, freestyle, etc.)
Have internal politics/ personality clashes caused splits/ site problems over the years? Maybe with breakaway competitors being set up, if so is there continuing animosity between CC and other games/ forums?
Anything else worth knowing?
