Best way to gain more points/rank ?

Hey guys,

I know that EVERYONE of us wants more points! lol

But every tip that I've read says the exact same thing: Specialize in a map and play LOTs of standard games on it.

I don't want to do that, because I play CC for fun, and the high points I may get would not reflect my awesomeness in RISK overall...........it will just show that I know how to get high points.

Also, I have amazing team mates, but overall my team game winning ratio is about 50%..........so its hard to gain points you know...............

Any tips please ?

to help out the OP.....just a quick look at your games shows that you only play 1v1 games all your standard games are 1v1 and all your doubles games are 1v1....obviously trips/quads are always 1v1.....

this is the problem if you have a win ratio of 50% (yours is 46%) then ur losing as many games as your winning...so each time you win a 1v1 game you gain 20-30 points but each time you lose a 1v1 game your losing 20-30 points so you will never climb in rank this way....

team games are a great way to keep your score ticking over but you will never improve your rank unless you take up some farming techniques

personally I hate when guys just play stupid amounts of difficult maps on difficult settings waiting for a bunch of noobs to join so they can take easy points (do a search in Game finder....doubles, trips & quads with freestyle, waiting for players and you will see what I mean)

the best way to get points is play more Standard/Terminator games with 4-8 players...find the settings & maps you like the most and set-up a few of these games.....one 8 way standard win could net you anything from 100-150 points....BOOM rank increased..

also play 6/8 way Doubles games...you will have to share the points with your partner but still should take 50-80 points per game...

your a premium so you can specialise in one map and make it half of your active games and the other half can be for "fun".

for a long time i did this,when i was playing the "fun" games sometimes my rank droped so i started 1v1 San Marino games so that i could get my rank back up to wherever i wanted it to be. I learned a less liked CC map with specfic settings so that most of my oppentents werent familar with the style of play on the map so i usually won(65% win rate on manual settings)

team games are the easiest way to increase rank imo, find yourself a reliable good partner and learn a few maps, you'll find you will win more games than you lose.

I find that you can play for fun and still do decent in points ... if you're talented enough. I play a large variety of games. I "specialize" in 1 v 1 games and further specialize in a couple of maps. Specializing in 1v1 games is a horrible way to gain points, but it is my favorite. Yet I still manage to hold onto my swords and have a couple of times even earned a hat.

Points are a secondary consideration to me, but I try to avoid game types where I am statistically certain to lose points. I rarely join 1v1 on a basic map against a low-ranked player. I try to find games with players that out rank me. I know my own limitations: I suck at assassin and freestyle games. I'll play 1v1 tournaments knowing that as long as I make it through the first couple rounds, I'll be likely playing high-ranked players. You can adjust this for your preferred style of gameplay, but you get the idea.

Well I've only recently joined this site, and it seems to me (as a basic player) 1v1s are the best for lower ranks. I haven't done any maps on something stupid like Waterloo yet (I browsed them, looks too damn big). Specialize in a map. I like the Easter map a lot as it's more of a conquer style (start with 2 spots, rest neutral) and have destroyed everyone I've played so far (Manual, Freestyle, Escalating, Fog, Unlimited on that map).

My advice: find a map, pick settings, and go to town.

why would you want more points?

points don't measure skill. they simply show how good you can abuse the system and how much you can bend rules.

This is a great strategy for a lower-ranked player. I used it myself. But you have to try to make sure that you're generally playing opponents of the same rank or higher as you. This gets harder as you become higher ranked.

I think I've either topped out or nearly topped out at the level I can reach playing just 1 v 1 on the settings I like to play (e.g. not farming), without being significantly discriminating in the games that I join (i.e. only playing players at my rank or above).

+1....totally agree...1v1 are good when your rank is low and is a good way to gain points cause there are plenty of higher ranks that like to play 1v1 but once you reach major or above, 1v1 are a great way to start losing loads of points...

so you're agreeing with me. the scoring system doesn't measure one's skill at playing risk but rather one's skill of using the system to score points.
my point exactly.
within our flawed system one could actually be a rather poor all around risk players but master a specific niche of games that allow him to get points.

for example a player could be a freaking genius on manual freestyle 1 min speed on arms race map and get thousands of points from it. but at the same time he might not have the slightest clue how a 6p escalating is played, or how a no spoils doubles game goes. basically he masters 0.1% of the possible map&setting combinations and sucks at the rest of 99.9%. overall he's crap but score places him on top.

so returning to the idea of the thread, if you want lots of points, the only way to do it is to find a niche and specialize in it. if you want insane amounts of points then you need to add take it to the extreme and start baiting noobs into your games, put on foe list people that beat you, start using scripts to automatically start your turns etc.

It is not the style of the games. You can play almost any kind of games and make it to major if you are good. Play the games you think are more funny, but play better. Try to think more before playing. Make sure you understand the map and the bonuses. Make sure you know the settings. Try to calculate what will happen. If it is a team game who is playing after you? can you reduce his bonuses? if it is escalating you can might kill your teammate for his spoils, or maybe your opponents can do the same.... there are many possibilities. Before playing make sure you thought about everything.

In addition you can try multiple player games. They are funny too. At those the game play is completely different. The most common mistake is that people make too many attacks. At these games make sure you reduced your attacks as much as possible. In addition if it is not escalatinguse diplomacy, diplomacy can be very funny.

You can easily reach captain/major playing the same games you do, with one minor change.

Join games second and as long as you, on average, play people of higher rank than yourself then a 50% win ratio will see you rise up the scoreboard. This has a limit of major, because it is rare for higher ranks to play 1v1.

This is all in reference to seq 1v1s. Team games are more skill based and freestyle is alien to me.

1vs1 is fun and quick, but is for most of us 50-50 win-loss so i never get big improvements.Also most of the maps are based on dice and depolyement luck, so its random.
I usually make the mistake on getting in a game with many low ranked players, but its usually not the best ideia, because u need to win 2/3 to compensate a loss against a low ranked.Also these kind of players are that rank for a reason, so they dont think the same way than you, and is almost certain that in some games your "good" strategy will be ruined by clueless players.(unless you are on a "special" map that u know good)

Based on my little experience i think the best way to climb is to play 5-8 player games , on your favourite settings and against equal or higher rank , for 2 reasons:
-in a 8 player game u just need to win 1 out of 8 games, so you dont loose your points(win 2 and u will climb)
-u learn with the best players

i almost forgot...make sure u play terminator...that way u might not win, but get your loss a bit nicer
