i understand your point, but there is nothing in lisbon as famous as liberty statue or eiffel tower that u could recognize it. There is not a big icon, but loads of them but they are not world wide famous.
Imagine Budapest(assuming that u are from there or know it better)...what would u give us to easily identify that is Budapest?
Well, i imagine that even if u could play Strauss only few people would find out what it was
But still i understand your point but this is a small country so its no iconic like London , NYC , Paris or Rio

For my Magyar map, to show Budapest of, I used the crown. But if I made a Budapest map, I would bring out the local things like the history. Budapest is a city that is full of history, has been conquered many times so that is an easy thing to do.

You could use something similar along that line.
or the flag
Look at that boat in the flag, with the old buildings in the background, that would look pretty good as the ferry symbol maybe? Just look at those colours as well. A striking black and white background with the sharp gold and the hint of green in the water. Can you translate the text for me on the seal and flag please.
If nothing comes from Lisbon, try the wider area. What is it known for.
What is the difference between Lison and Lisboa? Is one the English version? Which one do you use?

Lisbon is the name in english and Lisboa is the original name in Portuguese.
The translation for that old portuguese text is : Very noble and allways loyal city of Lisbon
In the pic backgrounds ive put some of the nicer and important areas in lisbon, like the castle or the old parts of the city in the hills
Also, the crows in the boat are the symbol of Lisbon and the cobbles are called calçada Portuguesa, typically portuguese and u can find it in most of the city. Both are represented in the map
I dont think it makes sense to put an old boat as the ferry symbol because it is a modern map

About Budapest is surely full of history and is probably the city in Europe that i most enjoyed visiting. But what i meant is that there is not realy an icon that u can easily identify as Budapest.The city is beatifull for it self and not because of a building or two

Still, i will try a different aproach on it to see what it comes out of it.

That is all I ask for, as I have stated, I like the map graphically, but it is that missing element. If Lisboa is the native name for the city, why not use that? Also, that text, again might add reference.

Budapest like all cities have something. For this one, I would play up the Danu. Strauss wrote a piece of music after it, it borders both parts of the city (Buda and Pest). I would bring in the trams as it only has a limited underground. Going another way, you have the whole vampire lore based around Budapest, so another Halloween map could be made for it. But this is a different topic.

Armandolas, just looked in the first post for the first time in a while and noticed that the small map you have is a direct scaled version of the large map. Just to be clear, when you do come to make the small map, the army circles will need to stay the same size as the numbers stay the same. Text can be shrunk but better not to scale it as that never works well. So when you do move things around, consider the small map as well so you do not hit snags later.

Personally I think that the classic layout used for metro lines/ public trasport systems could work much more for a map like the one you want to develop.

There should be a reason if everyone use this system:

Forget the city layout....go with something classic.
Then to add some nice graphics, you can add some monuments or famous touristic places to the map, etc etc etc

A friend of mine has been in Lisbon recently and he showed to me many pics with interesting places....

Said that I would go with the classic metro graphic layout.

I kind of like the organic aspect of it, with the background images and the different zones circles... even considering that it's not the usual aspect of a metro line plan.

Nevertheless, you could try to use NB suggestion (doing it metro style) and attach some city pics/icons to the connections where they're located... Also, I'd make the Bus and Ferry lines (even more) organic opposed to the rigidness of metro lines.

ive thought about the "normal" concept of a metro map . But then i thought it would be hard to make without being almost a copy of the original map.
But surely i will try it...and i can allways keep this style for another project later on. (maybe because its mine i like the design and colours of it..lol)

well, just leave them more loose to contrast with the orthogonality of metro lines....

I really would like to see this map to become something like this famous board game (i.e. scotland yard), where the transport lines are meshed with the roads and the layout of the London city.
