i understand what u mean,
theres other tactics like, if u have 3 spoils and can trade, some guys miss the game so they can cash later,
which gives them more troops , ( if they are well spread - classic )
and if they get lucky, somebody missed to kill a guy with 5 spoils, then they have the easy kill,
and with 8 cards, u win the game basically, just trading enough to kill the next guy and so on.

ive realised something new for me in arms race,
they say focus only on one side of the map

but if u can manage to take the spy for an instance in the use, and have the majority of your troops in ussr,
then some think u cant attack from the usa spy to miami, but its wrong - so they leave u alone, great thing i discovered,
but i took my shot too early, i should have waited until i have enough spoils, bad

another thing i didnt know is this
if u play trench, u can bypass a neutral region,
means u kill neutral, move all troops there,
and from there u can cary on to the next territory

maybe cheap, but some call it strategy
i didnt know its possible,

if u play nuclear, and have 4 spoils, and next round u have 5 spoils u have to trade
but if u have to nuke your own territory, there is a chance not to

you take your turn, you can also attack what ever you want,
but then let time run out
so u avoid getting a spoil,
and u have still 4 spoils next round
something worth mentioning

Hm, Aslan this is an interesting topic with interesting posts so far! But maybe we should call it "The interdepence between strategy, dice, deployment and cards" or something like that. So if we talk only about strategy and dice, we have to be aware of the fact that we exclude deployment and cards. So we have to know that "luck" is not equal to "dice" --> I can have bad dice in a triple, but our team gets 3 rainbow sets and the others 3 red sets ...

Strategy itself consists of many subgroups: Map knowledge and understanding, stacking, hiding, when to stop attacks, COMMUNICATION (in team games MOST important) .............
Dice are only dice ;) - a subgroup of "luck"

Now I want to use some reverse logic concerning team games: When a game has ended, I am always analyzing it afterwards briefly. I guess, at about 80% of my won team games we have won because of better strategy, 20% because of luck (mostly when we were even in strategy). So, to be fair, I take it as given that in case of having lost a game it is the same: 80% lost because of better strategy, 20% because the foes were lucky.
Now that luck is not equal to dice, the influence of dice has to be lower than that of luck, maybe 10%-15% - difficult to say.

All in all I would prefer a good deployment, especially in team games, to good dice. Good deployment (often it is enough if the opponents do NOT have a good deployment), good strategy --> There the enemies would need LOTS of good dice to compensate that (in quads nearly impossible as dice tend to be even there in sum.)

I am no expert in single player games so my theories above are only meant for multiplayer games.

thank you stotzi,
nice input

i didnt generally talk just about 1 vs1 games ( even those games are more tricky if it comes to dice at certain maps)

so what the big boys up on the scoreboard do is, they choose the right settings to eliminate or take the power off the dice,
thats when strategy comes to play,

in more complex maps, the dice do become unimportant,
if i would check what games the big boys play up on the scoreboard,
i dont think i will find doodle or luxembourg ;)

something i have to make a note of,
for future reference

in a team game, if B has the chance to make a nice bonus,
and A is in the way and can clear the opps who are in the way

its better that A doesnt kill the opp entirely and takes that region,
its better that A just diminishes the opponent,
since teamplayer will have to kill his own teammember anyway on the way to bonus

that way player B has to kill only 1 territory of player B ( his own teammember) and not 2 territories of course

( its far more complicated , but its for future reference, and kept easy for understanding)
