I have a whole new attitude toward complex maps

When I first joined Conquer Club it was exclusively because I could play the traditional Risk map. For several years I only played the Classic or other "simple" maps where the strategy was strictly straight forward with no special rules. I started to look at the other maps which I considered stupid as a challenge and realized that by playing them it caused me to think and thinking is good. Alzheimers runs on my Dad's side of the family and as I am now in my 60's the thought is always lingering as to whether my mind will fade away as I have seen in other members of family. Here are a few of the maps that I have played thus far that I would consider to be the most challenging for a first time player and probably should be banned for new members until they become established a bit.

All Your Base Are Belong To Us

Bamboo Jack

Battle For Iraq!

Conquer Rome

Cricket

Das Schloss

Forbidden City

King's Court

Monsters

Poison Rome

Stalingrad

Supermax Prison Riot!

Trench Warfare

Woodboro

A number of maps have a new recruit restriction in place I believe, and I think periodically the list is updated. But RDS or the Cartos will know more now!

I don't think bamboo jack deserves to be on that list

I would add Forbidden City as well.

Neither has any complex bonus structures, it's just hard to tell the linkages. Maybe they both should be [Revamped] with Supersize so that everything can be made clearer.

FC I understand, I like the map. However I don't find Bamboo hard to tell linkages at all?

This is the opposite of what you look for, but it still will help.

I don't either, but the railway stations can cause confusion.

It being a large map involves a very different strategy than small maps too.

The last listing of the allowed maps is from 2010. We do need an update on that.

Gilligan FP'ed me. Now we are foes.

EDIT: I see that it is updated.

You may be right about Bamboo Jack but Forbidden City has a complexity rating of 4.8 out of 5 at the Map Foundry.

I don't understand that. There is no double dipping, bombardment, victory conditions, killer neutrals or any factor of complexity.

It is just a failure of graphics.

I said, even though I like f city I understand why it made the list.
Bamboo I do not get why it's on the list.

I suspect because it appeared complex when it came out and indeed was complex compared to the other maps around then. There's a trend toward greater complexity in maps. A welcome trend I would say.
I agree with you premio, I enjoy playing these complex maps, more often fun than simple maps. My very favourite maps though I would say are the "semi-complex" maps, including NYC, world 2.1, or holy roman empire. These have interesting factors like special movement, size or unusual bonus to give them a delightful piquancy, yet are standard enough for the course of the game to follow a familiar narrative.
