Well, there's many ways to answer to this one. First of all Patty and Selma are big Mcgyver fans and they love the show.
In a sci-fi convention, where Richard Dean Anderson was promoting Stargate, they asked him about Mcgyver and he badmounthed the show. Because of that, Patty and Selma got offended and kidnaped him.
