Could be a good idea. Could be a bad one. Once you get a draft up, you'll get more helpful comments :)

1) Nice job on the parchment look! better than when i did it! but the edges could use a little work... I suggest taking a small eraser brush around the edge and just make it look a little more natural (if your using GIMP, then a fuzzy 3 brush would work nicely :) )
2) The actual map itself could use some work. I suggest doing the following:

Use a fuzzy selection brush on a picture of that area to get the outline and such of it
Fill that with the color u used for the parchment before you bumpmapped it and such
Remove the fuzzy selection (cntrl+shift+a) and then take a small fuzzy 3 brush eraser around the edge, like for the parchment
Somehow add a small (1 pixel or fuzzy 3 brush would work nice) outline around the main part of the map
Fuzzy select it again, and then do Select: Invert, create a new layer, and then fill the fuzzy select on the new layer with a color darker than the parchment (not much darker, but noticeably darker)
Remove the fuzzy select, then fuzzy select the area around the parchment, and erase in there
Move the different layers around so that the darker layer is below the main map part
Change the opacity of the land layer and the darker layer (WATER!!) to like 50% or around there. Maybe try different layer modes, like Overylay or Color.

that should make it look better, and maybe do the same sort of thing to the roses. Oh, and maybe make the roses layers fit onto the parchment and set their layers to maybe Color or Overlay, and mess around with the opacity.

If thats to confusing, maybe just pm me and ill try to let u know what i mean :D

oh and also add a legend onto the map. And territories.

yea i did mean geography, but i decided to kid around and put in geometry, thats why there was a  smilie, i usually only use those when im kidding around.

If he removes scotland and increases the rest it gives more playing room. Ill put up an example of what i mean in a little bit or tomorrow

if this looks like a serious attempt I'll move it over to drafts.

My early comments are these:

1. Think about somehow making key family members territories in addition to the traditional chunks of land... control all of the Lancasters and receive a Head of House bonus, etc.

2. I agree with the earlier post that Scotland shouldn't be in this map. If it is going to be included it should probably just be represented by a single territory, and if you hold that and one of the English families you get some kind of bonus (I might be remembering wrong, but I think the Scots sided with one of the families - the Yorks I think?). You could do the same with France - control a family and forge an international alliance for a bonus.

3. Focus first on the map and the gameplay itself - don't put a lot of time and effort into the background or making the Roses look right, as that can come later.

love what you did to the map...I will try to make that sometime by tonight...yet i still want to roses in opposite corners so i can have room to explain about the families...

And Oaktown I like your ideas about France and Scotland being in the gameplay but i dont think i could fit them in...I will also try to work in controlling the different houses somehow...

Thanks for the comments...keep them coming in

I had an idea last night of how maybe you could have the different houses thing. Maybe you could have different shaded areas on the land part for that parts allegiance to whichever house, and if theres some areas where there is no allegiance, then have those the regular parchment color. So you could have like a bonus for holding an entire house, and a +1 or +2 bonus for holding that house and the neutral (no allegiance) areas.

edit: oh and also, your gonna need some impassables. Since your doing a parchment look, holes in the parchment (or tears, whatever) would work nicely.

moved to drafts - and stanz is right, the background doesn't look so hot.

again, ignore the background/visual details for now and give us some territories. Making it pretty can come later.

looking good!

1) You put a hole in the paper on both flowers, so you need to do the same thing to the flowers there. And once you do that, redo the color around the parchment, so it includes the holes
2) Englands size needs to be increases slightly. Try rotating it to the right a little and then expanding it. But if you do that, add a compass somewhere on the map to show that north is slightly to the left, and to show that england is rotated.
3) The territories are a little small, but increasing englands size should fix that
4) Some of the territories need some work
5) Theres not much contrast between water and land.

didnt notice the holes will change that
will easily increase the size...still looking for a good compass though...any help with that would be awesome
Territories will grow when england grows
Territories were pretty rough sketches
And i dont have any water...
