Random Map is back online! :D

It will no longer select maps when there are more players than what the map allows.

If you have a game that got screwed up from that bug please contact Tech Support via the Help page.

While fixing issues, can new people select random maps? I know they cannot join some, but might they end up with them if they pick random? (just checking)

How about a Random settings selection also? That way you won't know if you get fog or spoils etc.

What needs to happen is that for all settings that are not selected, if a player hits randomize, all those settings are not revealed until the game starts.

I would think speed games should be excluded from this. There is too much a chance of someone forgetting to click "casual" OR forgetting to see if "casual" had been checked and then winding up with a game that began and ended before they even realized.

I am similarly nervous about freestyle versus Sequential, mostly because it is really important to know exactly when a game is starting in freestyle. This would give the last person or so to join a real advantage. IF this is a random option, I would prefer that the default would be "sequential" and that "either" would be another option, one you would have to actively pick. (more like current start game settings and not blank like in Game Finder)

It might also be nice to specify teams or no teams. On this I am more ambivalent. I said before that I wanted to seen an option for randomized teams period. However, it is one thing to play a game that might be Assassin or Terminator and something else to find you are teamed up with someone who may or may not even like teams. I can see a lot of people not wanting cooks to play Random, etc because of this.

    -Number of Players
    -Game Type
    -Map
    -Play Order
    -Spoils
    -Reinforcements
    -Fog of War

it would then be truly random and serve its purpose. By eliminating speed, there are no issues with people getting kicked out due to timing.

No they won't. If they were going to do that, they simply wouldn't select "random". It's quite logical, really.

I agree, as long as it's not ALL of those randomized by default. In other words, we should be able to selectively randomize those particular items we'd like to be randomized.

Number of players random? That might be... awkward... and not really what I'd like to randomize in my games, but maybe some others do.

If we're randomizing game type, there should be an option for "Random Solo Setting" and "Random Team Setting." Mixing random teams with standard/term/assassin would be a bad choice in my opinion.

I agree though that Map, Spoils, Reinforcements, and Fog of War would be very fun when randomized.

I still think there should be an option to select Freestyle and Sequential, while leaving other features blank.

Number of players seems like it could be problematic, but I can see where it might be fun.

If these other features are added, I like the original suggestion to allow some to be excluded... at least the team versus non team and Sequential versus Freestyle. I don't think there is any purpose to randomizing speed versus casual.

I agree, there's at least a few things that have no reason to be random, random map made sense because we have a ton of them, other settings its almost pointless with the possible exception of reinforcements and spoils. Going fully random would just get kinda ridiculous.

On another note, lovin the random maps, great job implementing it! =D>

If Random Map proves to be a popular feature---we can surely look into a Random Settings feature as well. But one step of randomness at time.

I wonder which will prove to be more Random---map selection, or the intensity cubes? ;)

No, it wouldn't serve it's purpose. Notice how it's called "Random Map" and not "Random Game"? Besides, that'd be kinda dumb... I wouldn't like that. I wouldn't, however, mind another little radio button beside each of the options that'll randomize it.

That's what WM is proposing. The ability to make all settings random but also to choose specific settings to randomize. I agree that its a good idea, but as Andy said we should first make sure that the random map feature is popular. I like it at least!

Since I am now playing an AOR3 escalating sunny game through the random map process, it occurs to me that it might be wise to have the random feature select the settings that are most popular for any particular map?

I would be more inclined to use the random feature in that case. Then we would be less likely to get caught in games that are likely to stalemate or play poorly. After all we all know that certain maps are bad with certain settings. It shouldn't be too terribly difficult to have the random feature pick the most common settings for each map, and thus reduce the risk of a bad setup?

i love it.....and i'm also wondering (someone else has probably said this), are we gonna be able to search for spots in public random games?

i.e. you need to make a "random map" tab on the game finder, so we can search for public, random, waiting-for-player games....unless it's already there and i'm just not seeing it....
