Classic Conquest [Version 3.1]

Map Name: Classic Conquest
Mapmaker(s): Plurple, Shannon Apple
Number of Territories: 50
Description:
This is a conquest version of the classic map. It has a number of regions added around the world to act as the starting regions. The idea for the map came from BigWham and original concept art done by Caymanmew. I was then further developed by my self in creating a playable version on the beta site and properly drawn by Shannon Apple

Special Features:
Starting positions and mostly starting neutrals.

What Makes This Map Worthy of Being Made:
I think this map would be a great starting point for someone who wanted to try out the conquest style with the familiarity of the classic map. and without all of the extra rules that conquest maps often have with there unconventional bonuses.

I've fixed some of the connections that were wrong. It was getting a bit late when I was making that map haha. If you guys notice anything else, let me know.

I double checked all of the connectins via inspector so should be the last missed one :D

An idea: instead of coloring the thin outline of territories to indicate their continent (subtle, hard to differentiate for the colorblind), color the landmasses below them.

Making the landmasses colourful would probably make the whole thing too busy, and harder to read, because there's a lot of connections going on. See the original classic map. This is based on that.

I absolutely can change the colours of the circles, make the outlines thicker, whatever is needed to ensure that people with colour blindness or visual impairments have a better time reading it. I did check this in a colour blind checker and it looked okay, but I'm open to suggestions on colours.

purely from the gameplay aspect, mexico city, buenos aires, johannesburg, berlin and tokyo make better starting spots rather than los angeles, sao paulo, cape town, london and beijing, as players begin further apart with fewer added neutrals.

however, that will leave us with the odd situation where none of the five most powerful nations has a starting spot.

please put the latest version number in the title of the first post. is it v3.01?

in any case, good luck in the main foundry.

Thanks yeah world politics doesn't necessarily match game play :D

I have added the xml file and Shannons latest maps to the first post. Let me know if there is anything else you need me to do for the next badges :D

With regards to the colors, since the connecting lines are yellow, maybe a different color for that continent that also happens to be yellow, (is that yellow too)? - the ones in China and India.

Connections are lime green, continent is yellow. I will mess around with it when I get a little time and see what I can do. =)

How about you delete the connections Edmonton-Vancouver and Los Angeles-Chicago... USA and Canada are too close

the basic connections are supposed to be identical to those of classic.

shannon, once u have time to do this, visualisation of the gameplay will be slightly easier if u overlay the map image with the starting neutrals that plurple has coded.

Shannon. I downloaded in Photoshop and simply inverted colors on the entire map. Give it a try, if only for kicks. You'd still have some issues with colors but maybe they'd be easier to fix this way. I think the inverted image is just as easy to read/use but is more visually striking.

Hah, this is actually an Illustrator document, not Photoshop. I will put aside some time to muck around with it a little and will consider your suggestion. I have used a colour checker online for different types of colourblindness, so it doesn't really have any issues there. But still... want to make the changes KA suggested. Might even change the colours on the connections.

Plurple: Are we changing the starting positions? It would be best to do all the changes in one go. ^^

I don't think the starting spots need to change personally from playing it feels fine as it is maybe the neutrals could be modified sloghtly if people feel things are imbalanced :)

Maybe if you don't want to change how many things are different colors, you could just change the connection lines within a continent.
