Re: UPDATED Map XML Wizard

Postby natty dread on Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:00 pm

Somehow, the XML wizard has set all my small map coords to 0,0 and now it's impossible to fix them since they're all stacked into the upper left corner.

How do I fix this?

Can you go through the xml in a text editor and delete out the 0,0 coords (ie remove each line completely?)

No, this was the first time I saved it...

I guess I can remove them with the search & destroy function of notepad easily enough. Thanks MrB.

Well I did that and now the wizard refuses to load the XML. (good thing I didn't overwrite the original.)

Sounds like it may be time to give the tool the ability to alter the coordinates by typing in the toolbox.

Even better would be if you could also move the coordinates by mouse. Keyboard moving can be tedious if the coordinate is on the opposite edge of the image from where it should be...

Anyway, can anyone help me fix my coordinates?

This has happened because you only loaded one map. The instructions do say load both.
There is no way for the XML Wizard to auto-calculate the other coordinates so they are marked as zero
in order to produce valid XML.

I suggest for now, copy the coordinates over the zeroes so that small map = large map coords and then
nudge them which at least means you dont have to redo the rest of the XML.

Perhaps I can give a button to autocalculate the second map coords, this is not the first time someone has done this.

Jota's Map Assistant can help fill in the missing coordinates. (There's a link to it in the mapmaker tools thread.)

You can load in the XML file (with the set of coords missing), and click in roughly the right place to generate the coords. Once you've done that, you should be able to use the XML wizard to finetune the positioning...

A "recalculate coords" button would be useful, and would help idiot-proof that functionality :P

Done. There are 2 new buttons called Auto xy.
If you have forgotten to add a second image and already entered a lot of territories then
use the button once you do load the second image.

It will only correct coords (0,0) so you don't lose any coords that you already did on the second map.

Ah, a bit late for me as I already fixed my coords, but a nice addition nonetheless.

Now you could maybe look into fixing the clipped army numbers? They're kinda annoying...

New update - made a correction to gameplay with complex nested continents and overrides found during work on a new map which works now.

Natty any chance of writing another post to summarize what you want whilst I'm at it?

Well.. the army numbers are clipped, 1-2 bottom lines of pixels are missing from each number. That's all I have right now...

chipv, i have a request and i guess it would be possible since you've managed to do some great things here... :)

Above is an image of checking things in Stalingrad.
The map inspect section in the middle of your tool comes up with everything listed for a region and has a scroll bar on the side. But that scroll bar appears useless as you lose that map inspect section and all the detail disappears so i can't scroll anywhere, when you move off the territory your inspecting.

My solution is to ask you if it is possible to have a couple of buttons (like on the small and large map options) where you can click on an individual button called "Borders" and it would only show the borders; if you click on the "Bombardments" button it would only show bombardments; if you click on the "All" button it shows everything; etc. etc.

Also, i am asking if you have given any further thought to moving the Territories, Name, Borders (and Bombardments), Coordinates titles in the bottom section scroll list to make it static with the other two rows above so that you don't lose those titles when scrolling through your territories list.

There seems to be a problem with awarding the same bonus to more than one player at a time. I noticed this working on Napoleonic Europe 1812, but you can check it against New World. If, for example, more than one player has 2 Comanche Territories, each one should receive the bonus at a start of a turn. But right now, they seem to cancel each other out. Also, if one player has, say, 6 Comanche Territories and the other has 2 Comanche Territories, the overrides of the first player's continents also seem to override the bonus of the second player.

I'm assuming this is in chipv's game "simulator" functionality, rather than in an actual CC game?

Yes. People are testing my XML for Napoleonic Europe 1812 and muttering about not getting bonuses. As far as I can see, I have defined it properly. To test my theory, I loaded New World into the Wizard and it has the same problem, as I said above. I suspect it is a matter of the Wizard evaluating who owns what within a continent and assigning it to a player (which you can see in the scrolling list of continents when the box containing the delete button (circle with an X) changes colour to match the player). More properly, since a bonus can be held by more than one player, each player needs to have a list of continents assigned, or possibily the continent could have a list of players, rather than a unique owner.

Ok, I resolved this problem. It was because I had set a different font as the default font for firefox, when I changed it back to 16px times new roman the army numbers are showing as usual again.

The 88 centering still has problems though: the red 88:s are 1 pixel too low, and white 88:s are 1 pixel too low and 1 pixel to the right.

If you are looking for new features to add to this marvelous tool, may I suggest a feature that automatically adds new territories to a continent selected from those already defined. That would allow me to create an empty continent, then select that one for auto-add, then create a mess of territories, then create another continent, select it, and create another mess. Lather, rinse, repeat, bada-bing, bada-boom.

Hey, chipv, how long before an update to deal with the new losing conditions/requirements feature? OliverFA is estimating 60,000 lines of XML for the Research & Conquer map, and even if he constructs it without the Wizard, it might be nice to test it with the Wizard.
