That is kinda strange but lookin at it, it is because of the strength of schedule. The whole point of the BCS and RPI is because in NCAA football they choose the 2 best teams in the league for the championship game, so they designed this system to determine who is the best teams by who they beat. since it is college sports generally all the best recruits from high school go to the top tier colleges so when at team plays in the top conferences they are considered a better team than the leaders of a very weak conference that rarely gets good recruits.

I wonder if this is a reason that the great teams play a warm-up game in Week 1 against some no-name school. The conferences probably love this as the blowouts in Week 1 will raise conference rankings across the board as teams play their intra-conference schedule.

One thing that helps to fix problems like blindman pointed out is the coaches' poll. But this would be impossible in this tourney and I would highly discourage any attempts to incorporate that.

A proxy for a coach's poll could be to give some weight to a person's overall CC points. Aside from making a hell of a lot more work for Rodent, I am unsure what effects this would have.

Another thing that I noticed might cause problems (not sure if it's THE problem in your case), is that a Week 1 win against one of the top CC players gives a huge boost to your rankings in Week 2. I wouldn't be surprised if the Week 2 rankings were basically whoever beat a ranked team in Week 1, followed by anyone who blew out another team in Week 1. I don't have time to check this theory out, though. I do think it's one of the most problematic aspects of this tourney though. If I'm right about its effects, I would suggest doing away with preseason rankings.

One question: Why do I (Clemson) not have a Week 10 game on the schedule? I'll have only played 8 games at the end of Week 10. Does Clemson have 2 bye weeks?

agentcom, looks like you have a Week 5 game against Virginia Tech that was never played. I guess I lost it in the shuffle of changing coaches. I'll send you and mwaser those games this evening.

Yeah, that's more deviation than I would like in this tournament. The formula I have right now, I think, gives a team too much credit for strength of schedule without taking into account how the team actually fared against that schedule. I won't mess around with it this season, but the formula will receive a complete overhaul before next season.

Stuff like this is why winning league is the only automatic qualifier for the playoffs.

We are down to four unbeaten teams ans 11 one-loss teams. Do you guys think anyone will make it through with a perfect record?

UTEP still hasn't joined week 9 game. Whats the standard procedure when someone doesn't join?

I won't be replacing anyone this late in the season. I'm of the mind that those games just go unplayed, since forfeits would have more of an impact on the standings. It's not ideal, but I don't know of any other options. Of course, it would be a lot better if people who committed to a tournament actually stuck with it, but hey, it's the internet. I shouldn't have high expectations.

However, a few things for people to keep in mind:
- players who drop out a the end of the season will be ineligible to play in this tournament in the future
- and players with four wins will have the first shot to retain their team next season, through PMs about a week before I post the thread. So even if you only have two or three wins, there's something still worth fighting for.

I would suggest pairing up the coaches that are still here but are missing games against each other in "make-up" games. I don't like the idea of having teams play shortened seasons.

Think you should still try and get a reserve in. That is what the reserves are for IMO. I have filled in for a 1-5 nfl team, its not all about winning but playing.
Plus you wouldnt have to try and rework the schedule

EDITED FOR CLERICAL ERROR: North Carolina won, but I recorded it as a loss for some reason (*cough*booze*cough*). North Carolina inserted in at #16, which pushes Michigan out.

Boise State's way too high. My formula is broken, even though I tweaked it again to lean less toward strength of schedule. But I guess a strong schedule, plus 4-1 on the road, plus 4-1 against Top-25 teams goes a long way.
