GAME SETTINGS

Map: World 2.1
Game Type: Terminator
Play Order: Sequential
Troop Deployment: Automatic
Spoils: Escalating
Reinforcements: Unlimited
Fog of War: Yes

INTRODUCTION
I feel that terminator games are a lot of fun, but terminator tournaments tend to be anticlimactic. The player with the most kills wins and the outcome is usually determined a few games before the end anyway. But no, not in a tournament I run. The basis of this tournament is that winning games will guarantee you a spot in the next round, but losing doesn't necessarily mean elimination. Racking up more kills than your opponents can also save you. Here's how it will work:

FORMAT
There will be 64 participants. I will seed the players by rank (and points if need be) into 8 groups of 8. I will do this by putting the players into 8 pots by score, and then I will randomly put one player from each pot into each group using a random generator. Each group will play 16 games. Point values will be assigned as such:
show

In the thread I will keep point tallies and number of kills. 4 players from each group will go on to the next round. The first two selected are those two with the most points at the end of the 16 games. Then, two players from each group with the most kills will go on to the next round, regardless of points. Obviously, it is likely for the two players with the most points to have the most kills, so the two slots for kills will go to the two players in the bottom 6 spots of the group with the most kills. This means that 4 players from each group will go on to the next round. The next round will be played in the same way, with Group A winners playing with Group B winners, C with D, and so on. At the end of that round, there will be 16 players remaining. They will be put into two groups, and play 16 games just like before. However, the procedure for moving to the final round is different than the others.

As before, the two players in each group with the most points will move on to the final round, but the process for the other slots have changed. An accumulated count of kills in all rounds will be kept for each player in the tournament, and the four players (excluding those who already have a spot) with the most overall kills in the whole tournament will go on to play in the final round. While unlikely, even a player eliminated in an earlier round could earn a trip to the final table.

The final round is different not only in qualification, but in structure. In this last round, 32 games will be played. The same point structure will remain, but with an addition. Terminations are worth 2 points each. At the end of these games, the player with the most points at the end of this round will be declared winner and will win a shiny medal, along with the respect and awe of all participants (though not as much respect and awe as the participants have for the tournament organizer).
Respect---> =D> Awe---> :shock:

I am also looking for 3 or 4 reserves.

We're currently waiting for the confirmation of 3 players. If they do not reply, I will begin contacting replacements for them.

Update

Round 3 has kicked off, with the first set of 8 games being sent out, after all the replacement players were found.

I haven't decided when to send out the next set of 8, but I'll judge based on the progress of games over the course of the week.

Update

5 weeks since we began the round, and Group M has 6 games remaining, while Group N has only 3 remaining. The scoreboard on the second post has been updated.

In both groups, the top 2 players have a sizable lead over the rest of the players, but that could well change within the span of a few games.

Also as you should know, aside from the top 2 players for each group, for progressing to the next round, the TOTAL kills over the course of the tournament will be taken into account. As such, here are the current standings of total kills, including those so far in this round. Players eliminated in other rounds have been excluded, as it is now impossible for them to advance, based on the kills.

  1. usernamer - 99
  2. VestedPower - 84
  3. smegal69 - 62
  4. Underated - 57
  5. MEK - 56
  6. ckyrias - 53
  7. roprotem - 53
  8. Risk_Averse - 51
  9. br4nd0n2002 - 39
  10. azak848 - 38
  11. The Goof - 37
  12. Chewie1 - 36
  13. theheadholes - 33
  14. morleyjoe - 28
  15. alglenist - 20
  16. hermey11 - 18

Update

The games of Round 3 are completed, and the finals of the tournament have finally kicked off. The top 2 from each group in Round 3 got a ticket to the finals, while the 4 remaining players with the highest number of kills throughout the tournament were let into the finals. Eventually, it worked out that the 8 players with the most kills in the tournament all advanced to the finals. The details of kills are below:

  1. usernamer - 108 (1st in Group N)
  2. VestedPower - 88 (2nd in Group M)
  3. smegal69 - 65
  4. MEK - 63 (1st in Group M)
  5. Underated - 58 (2nd in Group N)
  6. ckyrias - 58
  7. roprotem - 55
  8. Risk_Averse - 52
    --------------------
  9. br4nd0n2002 - 39
  10. azak848 - 38
  11. theheadholes - 38
  12. The Goof - 37
  13. Chewie1 - 37
  14. alglenist - 35
  15. morleyjoe - 28
  16. hermey11 - 25

A reminder to all that the finals will consist of 32 games, instead of the usual 16. All results from prior rounds are no longer relevant either. Good luck!

Update

A long long time since we first started off the Final round, 10 games have finally reached completion. With 10 games out of 32 completed, this means that about a third of the games in this round are now complete.

Looking at the updated leaderboard, the top 3 players - ckyrias, roprotem and Underated - are pretty close to one another. The wins for each game have been pretty spread out so far, probably owing to the fact that these 8 players are the best of the best in this tournament.

With two thirds of the games yet to be completed, we may see major shifts in the standings on the leaderboard, so keep fighting!

Update

16 games are now complete, indicating the halfway point in the finals. Currently, the leaders - ckyrias and smegal69 - are neck and neck at 141 points. Closely behind them is Underated with 139 points. It's still going to be a heated race to the finish, as a clean sweep of a game awards a player 16+14=30 points at one go, which is more than enough to close up the gap between players.

Keep fighting!

Update

With just 2 games left in the tournament, a winner seems to be emerging.

After taking a string of wins in the past few games, smegal69 has pulled away from the pack with 291 points. The next closest behind him is roprotem with 250 points, followed by Underated with 232 points. Both of them are currently the only other players who can steal the title from smegal69 right now.

Worth mentioning is VestedPower, who made an astounding leap to the front half of the pack after being far back in 7th place. This comes after he got a couple of wins under his belt as well. Unfortunately him, it was too late to get to the top.

Update

With his strategic move of eliminating roprotem in Game 25, smegal69 has secured his win in the tournament, being the player with the highest points in the finals in the tournament, as no other player can catch up with him now.

It was a well-fought long battle, so it is certainly a well earned win.

CONGRATULATIONS SMEGAL69! =D> =D> =D>
