No response from this player, he is now eliminated and I will commence to make round 2 games and PM each player the games they need to join.

Ok there has been a lot of games finished - here is the update

SNARF17WD kills J_A 19hrs 45mins and 37secs into round 2
b00060 kills bigg chief 21hrs 55mins and 22secs into round 2
bigg chief nearly kills highlanderattack 22hrs 37mins and 23 seconds into round 2
highlanderattack kills drunkmonkey 25hrs 15mins and 41secs into round 2
drunkmonkey nearly kills snarf17wd 44hrs 18mins and 13secs into round 2
jwithington kills b00060 34hrs 35mins and 57secs into round 2 - this is pending if jwithington misses a second turn in his defend game.

updating the scoreboard now

2 games are about to finish and then round 2 will be over. After which, I will update the surviving members scoreboard to show the correct stats.

I seemed to have overlooked a valid player for round 2 - 16. elmerfudd - should have been playing that round, will PM all surviving to get feedback on fixing this problem.

Sorry everyone, Lurk

Votes were cast - In a 4 to 1 decision, the chosen solution is to make elmerfudd play 2 Defend games against a remaining player.

Using Random.Org, it has been decided that Nikita42 will be the one that has a chance to shoot elmer.

I will commence making the games and sending invites now.

Round 3 games have been made and sent. I still need to update the scoreboard to reflect round 2 stats. Will get on that when I find some more time this weekend.

I just realized i won 5 out of 6 matches and still got eliminated for speeding up a game. I mean i failed one defend against nikita42.

2010-02-28 16:29:57 - Nikita42 eliminated SirSebstar from the game
2010-02-27 15:45:22 - uckuki eliminated Nikita42 from the game

here is what i dont get. nikita died before i did. so why am I eliminated?

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that it isn't based on the time when you win or lose, but rather, the total time from the start of your match to when you won or lost.

It's kinda weird but that's how the tourney is set up. :)

Yeah...it actually punishes quick players.

Well, it was part of the rules, Lurk's been pretty clear about it, and it's established that if anyone is slowing down for the sake of not dying, that Lurk said he'd look at it.

It's just another quirk to a quirky tournament. Personally I think it's fun to be looking at other matches to see if I am alive or not!

I'm not too worried about it. I looked through all the games in the round I was eliminated, and I would have been out even if it went by round instead of time. You're correct; he was clear about the rules from the beginning.

Update - Both Easy n Dirty and jwithington have advanced to round 4. Nikita42 was eliminated 65 hrs, 18 mins, and 36 secs into round 3.

This means jwithington has had 2 near deaths this round, and thanks for clarifying to some people the rules :D

Waiting on last 4 games to finish to decide the fate of HighlanderAttack and SNARF17WD.

SNARF17WD has been shot and killed by the hands of HighlanderAttack - 155hrs, 53mins and 58secs into round 3 - And now has been eliminated, thank you for playing.

Only 2 more influential games remain - Remember that if HA misses 2 turns in his defend games he is eliminated and snarf will be put back in the tournament!!! Lets hope Ha with his 1200+ games has been not missing any in this tournament

EDIT - HA lives onto round 4, games will be made Tuesday morning and sent out then.

Round 4 games made and sent - Good luck to the three players that remain :D

I have no idea who will come out on top this round.

Remember that there is only 5 rounds, so if there is a tie still the, it comes down to stats.

Very interesting indeed - HA managed to get a shot off at Easy n Dirty

HighlanderAttack was shot 53hrs, 7mins, and 32secs into round 4
Easy n Dirty was shot 48hrs, 48mins, and 21secs into round 4

This is preliminary, but it appears you are the sole survivor of round 4 and the winner of this tournament :D:D:D:D
-- This is if you joined all your games with Easy n Dirty around the same time, I only checked one before this post

Hats off to jwithington =D>

I will look more into calling it officially over either later tonight or tomorrow, in the meantime I am pretty busy but will get back to this tomorrow at the latest...

Are you kidding me? I am about to take 3 out of 4 against both jwihington and HA - how can I be eliminated based on that?

I think the trnmnt design on this one needs some tinkering, it encourages players to stall.

It is based on time, pushing your life 4.5 more hours in your only loss to HA would have given you the tournament win Easy n Dirty.

The last surviving player is jwithington!!! =D> =D> =D> =D>

Hope everyone involved has enjoyed this tournament, it was an interesting experience watching many of your games.

Thank you all for joining and playing,

How the hell does someone go 2-6 and win a finals with three people left.

Reading is fundamental and I evidently did not read.

Where does this say anything about being time based?

- For sake of potentially having 10 games at once this tournament is open to premiums only.
- If you miss 2 turns in any Defend match you are eliminated from the tournament and anyone you eliminate that round is brought back to life (Stalling matches to stay alive longer is not acceptable, please have a sitter available if you are unable to take turns)
- Time officially starts once the match has begun (waiting 47 hours to join a game does not give any advantage)
- After 48 hours from round starting you will be replaced by a reserve for reason of not joining games
- If the match lasts longer then 25 rounds it is considered a near death for the person defending
- Participants will be randomized as to what position they will start at (ie. sign up position does not dictate the order of where you start in the circle)

Read further into the first post:
Format:

hide
All Map settings are: Random map, automatic deploy, sequential turns, escalating spoils, chained forts, and foggy

For each round you survive you will have a corresponding amount of Attack games and Defend games. For round 1 you will have 1 chance to kill your target and 1 chance to defend yourself. In round 2 it will be two Attack games and two Defend games and so on up to the fifth and final round.

You will be playing Attack games against the person in front of you and Defend games against the person behind you. (for example in a 3 person circle. player 1 will be attacking player 3 and defending against player 2. While player 2 will be attacking player 1 and defending against player 3)

Being eliminated: This occurs when a player loses a defending round while their attacker is still alive and the game is valid. If you lose a defending match but your attacker has been eliminated before that exact time of winning the game with you, this is called a near death and you live to see another day. If however you lose a defending match and your attacker was alive at that time you are eliminated from the tournament.

And furthermore I have explained in the PMs for the first two rounds that this is a time based tournament - as well as in a couple previous posts in response to players asking questions in this thread. I have posted in games once i have noticed if someone did not die and is still valid to eliminate you (has moved on to the next round). As well as if they were eliminated and can no longer eliminate you from the tournament.

Beyond that I can not think of any other to notify people that are unclear of the rules without telling me so. Sorry that both you and easy made it through the first 3 rounds without knowing how the tournament was progressing. Next time ask questions before the tournament is over please.

Thanks, lurk

You are right-I did not understand--I just saw 1v1 and played it accordingly. I am burned out after playing 1250 active games. It sure did not help having so many games and not understanding even though I don't think I would have won anyway based on those rules.

Thanks for explaining--I will add this to the thread.

Hey that's exciting!

And yeah, it's a weird system...but bullets/Russian Roulette works that way...only takes one shot to lose.... :D

Lurk, if you run this again, I am so in! Not because I won but because it was tense in a new way.
