Why do you label Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged as "Chicago School of Economic pornography"?

Is he talking about Chicago style politics? I've heard that phrase bandied about like crazy during the last three years.

Wow you guys really don't know anything about economics or economic theory, do you?

I know a lot about those guys; I wanted to see how tobinov would answer the question.

I got it. But then, I studied economics and junk in college.

Phatsco, do most jokes in this forum just fly right over your head? Is that the source of most of the miscommunication around here?

Maybe it's just the fact that I've followed finance for so many years that I'm familiar with how often finance guys make jokes about economics and pornography, but it really shouldn't be that complex or lofty to understand.

Even better!

Wait... did I not just say that I'm not a bitter person? I'm confused as to why you would continue to consider me a bitter person when I told you I'm not. Do you think I'm lying? Is there something I'm doing here on this site that leads you to believe I'm bitter (apart from losing a lot of games)?

pimpdave wrote:I resent your continued assertion (based on nothing) that I inherited anything (other than my dashing good looks and dynamite smile).

Oh, sorry. Would you say you're bitter about my continued (we should define the word "continued" since I believe I only said you inherited money once) assertion? I made the assumption because I've heard that rich people don't work hard.

pimpdave wrote:It doesn't matter if people don't reply to the Tea Party Death Squad threads. What matters is that the news gets out about that dangerous organization. And besides, people do still reply, when it's a story that is apparently interesting to them. There just hasn't been anything recently. Everyone has slumps. At his best, even Ted Williams failed 6 out of 10 times.

I suppose the people are still pming you about their concerns about the Tea Party Death Squads. Don't fret, the Tea Party Squads are tracking those folks down as I type.

pimpdave wrote:I wasn't insulting your intelligence for pointing out that you have no idea what you're talking about when you're tapping away about economics. I'm just pointing out that you clearly weren't educated in that discipline. If you were insulted, that's your own hypersensitivity coming into play.

Wait... how are you not insulting my intelligence when you say that I have no idea what I'm talking about when I'm tapping away about economics? Is saying, "You have no idea what you're talking about" not insulting someone's intelligence? Is intelligence not related to having an idea about what one is talking about? I'm not sure I'm hypersensitive, although I'm most assuredly sensitive because I have a rather large ego.

pimpdave wrote:You're always talking with authority about taxes too. I'm curious what that foundation is built on. Just the law school thing? If so, it's really no surprise why you fail to see the big picture so often when it comes to economics.

Well, I suppose I could provide you with my resume, but I don't want to get into too much personal information (which is a violation of the rules). I guess you'll have to trust me or engage in the discussion.

Intelligence and ignorance are two separate things. You very intelligently have no idea what you're talking about, when it comes to economics, most of the time. You very intelligently know exactly what you're talking about when it comes to complaining about how hard rich people have it and why they shouldn't have to pay more in taxes to keep this entire nation solvent.

You don't have to show me your resume. You've told me what you studied in school. I'm sure you were a great student too. I took many of the same classes you did. But I don't recall you ever mentioning a major (or even a minor) in economics.

Get some rest dude. You're sounding frazzled. If you're using CC to take a break from your job, get a micro-nap instead. Just ten minutes can really help. It's got to be really exhausting having a newborn.

Rich Inheritance Fat Cat....and Elitist?

Greek is more qualified to speak on these issues than most.

I've seen zip from Dave to even begin to wonder how qualified he might or might not be. He says he has a degree, but everyone has a degree here right?

So are you saying I'm ignorant with respect to economics? What's the opposite of ignorance? Whatever that is, you've just insulted my having of that.

Shockingly, it appears that you have not read any of my posts with respect to raising taxes on the rich. One might say you're ignorant about my viewpoint.

I'm not really frazzled. I think I'm making clear and cogent points and asking clear and cogent questions. Truly I was a little insulted (hypersensitive is the word you used to describe it) with respect to your insulting of my "whatever the opposite of ignorance" is. I'm also confused about what my true colors are, what my false colors are, and when I changed them. I'm confused by a lot of things, which, if you would explain them to me, would reduce my confusion.

I am a little tired. My son sleeps through the night, but by "through the night" I mean from like 11 PM to 4AM... five hours of sleep is not something I'm used to.

Don't be resentful because I used money I earned working at a grocery store in high school to play the financial markets effectively.

Didn't want to let this one slip, but I'm not going to do that whole "parse every single line of a post and make a huge long reply" thing that is a glaring sign of low intelligence (or sleep deprivation).

Anyway, it doesn't matter what I were to show you, Phatsco, you'd never be impressed anyway.

<---wondering how it is you missed the biggest boat of all time with precious metals, the number 1 performing sector 9 years running...

Even Anthony Weiner tried to scare people out of gold at $800. I pity the fool that listened to Anthony Weiner.

I didn't miss any boat. That's another ridiculous claim...

And it just proves the point that no matter what I reveal about myself, you'll try to use it to undermine anything I say anyway. The only tip I've given any of you is that gold is overvalued at this point. If it keeps going up at this point, it's too high to be worth buying any more because it's going to come back down. Why you think that means I don't hold any gold at the moment underscores my point above yet again.

Finally, and most importantly, I'm not out to take all of the money in the world for myself. I have enough to get by. And I live very simply. That's all I really need. I don't mind paying my taxes at all and won't mind if they go up because I love this country and I want it to do better.

You guys are all sounding really selfish and bitter.

is that basically the same as saying the dollar is going to go up, since gold/dollar act inversely? If that is the case, why do you think the dollar will go up? The Tea Party Death Squad?
