Does anyone ever think about how pretty much EVERY movie that comes out nowadays are pretty much all remakes? They want to remake the Spider Man movie series when they didn't even finish the first one. So what's up with that?

When they remade Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street... Like.. They screwed over both of them, both of the original series were good.. and seriously? Freddy being a pedophile? He killed children, not molested them.

Why can't movie producers come up with original ideas anymore? It's all either remade or with a VERY similar story line when compared with another movie. v.v.

Remakes are kind of safe bets. Take a look at more indie movies, or see some movies from other countries. There's interesting new stuff around.

True, but is it too much to ask for Hollywood to get off their butts and let something original come to the big screens?

The only movies I see from other countries (In another language with English subtitles usually XD) are seen online. They're not on TV much and they're not in the theatres that much. The remakes Hollywood do on shows are usually shortened to nothingness (Watch the Avatar: The Last Airbender.. the story line of it is good, but they left too much out).

Like I know other countries have nice movies, but you'd think between Canada and the US that one of us would be able to actually make a decent original film >.<.

People have been crying about this since films started being projected in theaters. Maybe after you've dried your eyes you could go ahead and take a shot at writing something yourself instead of whining.

To amuse myself I'll answer your first question, no I do not, because I am not crying, I am simply stating that it'd be nice to see something unique up on the big screen, something no ones seen before, something that is purely the imagination of some write/director out there.

But given your previous statement, I'm sure you'll find some way to shit all over it and say it's not original, because you're not looking for anything original, you're looking for what's already been done. And even the stuff that is "original" as labeled by the hivemind, never is, because in broad terms, absolutely nothing is original.

What you should want is something memorable. Good work is memorable, but it's basically impossible, even ill-advised to be original. Mechanics of story-telling exist because they work and it's something that we as humans have been honing for millenia.

Change your expectations and you'll be a much happier film buff, and you might even find yourself wanting to create something of your own. If you try that (and you absolutely should) don't get hung up on being original, it'll only place an insurmountable wall in front you. Your only goal is to not be boring. Seriously. After that, try to be memorable. And maybe in ten years you'll have a masterpiece. But it probably won't be original.

What's wrong about discussing things in a discussion thread? If you want to attack the opinion I have on new movies go ahead, but I do not appreciate attempted personal assaults.

Everyone have different views, but personally, I won't judge your personal character or attack it unless you begin to do so to me, since I'm still newish to the Atmospheric forum, I'm just going to say post against me with good arguments, not with words trying to downgrade me for my opinion.

No, you assumed my character. In a way to try to bring some sort of response.

If you can't take criticism or you can't give criticism how is anything supposed to be better? In that argument we might as well say unless your a politician you cannot vote because you have not been one before. Critics are to improve things, not put them down. I believe the film industry could be improved with a few original movies here and there. I myself am going into game developing and believe me, I enjoy criticism, especially ones that can give options on how to improve something. People who use criticism in a negative way are the ones that are low. But in your opinion I take it that you believe no ones views matter on something unless they're doing it themselves. Well, no one can judge or criticize Hitler now because they haven't been a chancellor of Germany. Or we can't criticize wars because we're not in the army.

That's a very narrow minded way of thinking there dave. I think I'll stick with preferring the thoughts of multiple people instead of the thoughts of a few.

So I need to be an electrician to notice that my light bulb isn't working?

Most movies are shitty. I think this is because:
1. It's hard to make a good movie. 2 hours to develop characters, tell a story and all that, no easy matter.
2. most people are content with shitty movies. I mean if there's a market for all those ridiculous reality shows and what not I guess there's a market for the hundreds of movies coming out every year.

I personally can't stand the typical hollywood recipee: half-assed story vaguely related to some familiar theme, add some half naked chicks and a couple dozen guys getting brutally shot down and there you go blockbuster done. But a lot of people undoubtedly enjoy seeing that stuff again and again, so you really can't blame hollywood for anything, they are a business after all.

As for "creative" films, I'm sure there's some movies being made that fit in your particular definition of "creative", whatever it is. You just have to realize you're after a niche product which means:
1 you can't expect a new movie you like being made every month
2 you might have to hunt them down a bit more, but with the internet it shouldn't be so hard to find titles relevant to your interests.

Pretty sure it's more like criticizing the wiring of a house without any experience with electrical systems outside of switching on and off a light switch.

I'm not saying it's dumb for people to decide whether or not they like something (that's more akin to your noticing your light doesn't work metaphor).

I only watch remakes. And I make sure that I haven't seen any previous remakes beforehand, so that my only perceptions of the title are based on the most recent remake.

Aye, I don't HATE remakes, I just disagree with them when it's the only thing you get to watch in a theater. I'm not sure about many of you, but I'd like to go to the movies, have a comfortable chair, and watch an original movie that's not in poor quality from being taped or something. You know?

Yes, I do watch originals online, a lot of them are bollywood. Not the BEST movies ever due to under budget. But they're definitely good to give a watch every now and then.

As for the post above mine, the beginning of the video. I'd have to say budget. Either they'd have to pay for a new story line, or they'd not get a good budget if the story is not well known because the investors are scared of investing into an unknown bran/title.

Though, this is a remake (story line wise, never made a real movie yet) that'd I'd actually say 100% I'd like to see. The fabled Halo movie that was supposed to be released back in 2008, but all the investors cut the budget too much
