AoG, you don't know what you're talking about with saving legs during the shortened season. I think the opposite would be true in hockey. You'll have to play your ass of every game for 50 games. It's not like the NBA lockout where the spurs know they have like 40% of their games against terrible teams, in hockey regardless of the difference in skill, you're still gonna have dudes who want to knock the shit out of you, and that adds up. Further, it isn't as if most teams have 2 extra lines so that they can rest their top 6, you have to play every shift, every game (unless you're Alex Semin, I guess).
I will say that the caps look poised to take advantage of the shortened season the best. They can't put together a 98 game season (82 regular, 16 wins for the cup), but 66, we might have that. And it will buoy their confidence into a back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back stanley cup run, where Alex Ovechkin puts up 80 goals a year in the regular season and 25 goals/postseason to become the obvious choice for greatest player of all time.
