UN Trying to destroy the internet

Postby bedub1 on Tue Dec 04, 2012 6:37 pm

The 12-day ITU conference, which began on Monday, largely pits revenue-seeking developing countries and authoritarian regimes that want more control over Internet content against U.S. policymakers and private Net companies that prefer the status quo.

Some countries want to extort money from Google etc, forcing Google to pay for what the users in the countries in question look at. This is ridiculous.

Some countries want to inject their backdoors, packet sniffers etc into the internet so they can spy on all their citizens. They want to get rid of encryption, or at least put a backdoor in it. They want to have the power to know everything all the time. They want to get rid of Anonymous people on the internet, and force everybody to be their "real" selves. This is ridiculous.

The telecommunications standards arm of the U.N. has quietly endorsed the standardization of technologies that could give governments and companies the ability to sift through all of an Internet user's traffic -- including emails, banking transactions, and voice calls -- without adequate privacy safeguards. The move suggests that some governments hope for a world where even encrypted communications may not be safe from prying eyes.

For example, the document optionally requires DPI systems to support inspection of encrypted traffic "

Fight back against these money grubbing whores and their authoritarian leaders. The Internet must remain Free and Open!

The internet is probably the greatest project mankind has as a whole, it is an interwoven connection that works on a greater level than any individual can perceive or control.
To stifle this would be a horrible loss. All this for money, and the ability to hide their piffle from the masses.
I'm glad that the internet is still free, or perhaps we wouldn't even be able to learn that they were planning this.

Of course a day will come when governments finally control the internet. It's inevitable.

Holly Shit! Congress has pulled it's head out of it's ass and done something right!

The House on Wednesday unanimously passed a Senate resolution introduced by Sens. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) that calls on the U.S. government to oppose United Nations control of the Internet.

The 397-0 vote is meant to send a signal to countries meeting at a U.N. conference on telecommunications this week.
