You like different types of music to other people. there's no need to say one sucks and one doesn't, as everyone has different tastes.

So Jenos, Stfu for once.

If that is the whole point of this thread, then why is it called "Rap suck. Period"? how bout the Opening Post?

I concede on the point about different tastes, as I hardly like EVERYTHING my buds listen to and visa-versa. But can we then find styles NOBODY here likes and trash on them  ?

I think the rap/rock fusion stuff is pretty good. Personally, I like the Gorillaz and the Linkin Park/Jay-Z stuff. Incidentally, I think Fort Minor is pretty good too.

I know there are people who hate Linkin Park and want to rip my guts out, but I'm just saying what I like.

This logic can be applied to almost every genre of music.

So says you. "There are as many opinions are there are men on the earth"- an old latin quote, I forgot the author. I think rap is barely music, and you say the same about my music. In the end, the OP and thread title say it all :) .

Sorry, Jenos, you missed the sarcasm tags... and also every reference in my posts to rock music in a positive light (I like it!)...

No, I'd say the perfect entry-drug would have to be the Beastie Boys.

imho, the beasties are like the alcohol of major-league hip-hop - sure, it's a drug, and it's AWESOME, but it doesn't mean you're going to going to try heroin tomorrow. same with the beasties, great music, but you're not going to hit up an underground show the day you buy Sabotage.
in contrast, J5 is the archetypal gateway drug - they're just mainstream enough that you can sometimes hear their stuff on the radio, and they have cds all over, but it's real, and it just hooks you in to get more of the harder-to-get stuff. that was fun.
speaking of, you really think they're breaking up? sad.

Perhaps, but they're past their peak in all honesty. Lost the freshness a little bit... Bought the new album when I was in San Fran last year before it was out in the UK and it wasn't really a grower... Some good tracks but it wasn't golden :D

Saw them live couple times at festivals too. They put on a good show!

I know the whole story about Aerosmith and Run-DMC. And about Public Enemy and Anthrax. And one of the 'newer' bands I can get into is Linkin' Park.

I just don't like pure rap/hip-hop. But then, I have friends who make me look like some sort of North Californian Lefty.

what are those rock songs that are sorta like rap songs considered?
(lyrics throughout like a hip hop song, no instrumentals yet it's played with rock gear)
like Pretty Fly for a White Guy by The Offspring
or Youth of the Nation by POD

Rap-rock, or rap-metal, I've heard it.

Like Kid Rock, before he went all southern rock recently.

Never quite got into him in the first place. But I do like a little Skynard and the like once in a while.
