Redditor Ventachinkway caught a photo of a homeless man conducting a clever exercise in behavioral economics disguised as an inquiry into the levels of spontaneous generosity as determined by religious creed or lack thereof.

When I passed him he proudly announced "The atheists are winning!" (i.imgur.com) (via Glinner)

Much as I dislike religion in general, the redditor atheists are possibly the biggest group of self-flagellating tools out there. There's a reason the term "circle-jerking" is so popular on reddit.

As much as that is awesome! A couple of things:

- Was there some competition bias observed in a couple of outliers in this? (i.e. one really militant athiest and agnostic wanted to prove a point/win)
- You need to adjust for population composition

Haha. A good friend of mine is a redditor, and he refers to that group as the "Neckbeard atheists." What that means is a little beyond me, I guess. I've never been on the circles of Reddit.

My first thought is that the homeless man is crafty and creative, and he put A BIT OF HIS OWN MONEY (or maybe shifts money from the religious pots) in the "atheist pot", thinking that the religous folks might be the easiest to spur to "give more" that way. Maybe I'm too cynical, but that's how I initially see it.

And yes, the atheist forum on Reddit is absolutely full of self-flaggelating hostile-to-religion douchebags. It's sad because they act exactly like they like to complain about religious folks acting toward them.

You need to adjust for your attitude. Per-capita is for pussies. HUGH!!!

(re: underlined, good thought, but couldn't it be the same case for the believer? Or does the average atheist have 'something to prove' more so than the average believer?)

I only make bold claims with the utmost of scientifical evidenciaries.

In America I would suggest they do. Like any minority really. (human nature shows that underdogs fight more visciously right?).

this was my initial thought, to be honest. nothing motivates like the desire to remove a negative stigma.

plus, the guy proudly announcing "atheists are winning!" makes me suspicious.

It's obvious, isn't it? Though no quite a circle, the loop design is reminiscent of the endless cycle of samsara. The spring loaded portion of the carabiner represents the Buddha's teaching, which 'spring you' out of the endless cycle.
