We conservatives are just "crazy", thinking the government can do us harm...

Washington Post wrote:At various points over the past two years, Internal Revenue Service officials targeted nonprofit groups that criticized the government and sought to educate Americans about the U.S. Constitution, according to documents in an audit conducted by the agencyā€™s inspector general.
The documents, obtained by The Washington Post from a congressional aide with knowledge of the findings, show that on June 29, 2011, IRS staffers held a briefing with senior agency official Lois G. Lerner in which they described giving special attention to instances where ā€œstatements in the case file criticize how the country is being run.ā€

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/pos ... port-says/

National Review wrote:Along with targeting tea-party groups, the IRS may also have given extra-special attention to the tax-exempt status of some Jewish groups for political reasons.

From the Jewish Press:

The passionately pro-Israel organization Z STREET filed a lawsuit against the IRS, claiming it had been told by an IRS agent that because the organization was ā€œconnected to Israel,ā€ its application for tax-exempt status would receive additional scrutiny. This admission was made in response to a query about the lengthy reveiw of Z STREETā€™s tax exempt status application.

In addition, the IRS agent told a Z STREET representative that the applications of some of those Israel-related organizations have been assigned to ā€œa special unit in the D.C. office to determine whether the organizationā€™s activities contradict the Administrationā€™s public policies.ā€ . . .

Wall Street Journal wrote:The Internal Revenue Service's scrutiny of conservative groups went beyond those with "tea party" or "patriot" in their namesā€”as the agency admitted Fridayā€”to also include ones worried about government spending, debt or taxes, and even ones that lobbied to "make America a better place to live," according to new details of a government probe.

The investigation also revealed that a high-ranking IRS official knew as early as mid-2011 that conservative groups were being inappropriately targetedā€”nearly a year before then-IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman told a congressional committee the agency wasn't targeting conservative groups.

My God you guys are funny. Is it possible to discuss the problem without resorting to the bullshit?

Conservatives? No.
Republicans? I tend to think so. <grin>

In all seriousness, yes this would definitely appear to be a problem, and potentially a serious one. It definitely bears looking at by a non-partisan entity.

Aside from that, is it necessarily surprising that a tax-exempt application for a group that is stridently against taxes might get a bit more scrutiny?

I'm not trying to justify all of the scrutiny, but it was a comment I saw online that seemed to make a little sense.

I couldn't answer that one, as I don't really watch them. But it's being talked about a lot online.

I agree with Woodruff here. It is basically meaningless rhetoric to describe the IRS looking a little bit harder at someone's tax records as an example of the "modern day Inquisition."

we have all the facts already? Someone should have told me earlier! Can you remind us all please of the facts which you speak. And can you source the evidence that Obama didn't suggest or request it.

Thanks in advance

Well, isn't that convenient - because you apparently have enough "facts" to imply that Obama ordered it.
Or, is that why you caveat with the Obama administration "DID" it? Not exactly Nixon, but point the finger anyway. So whatever, I am sure spreading conspiracy by suggestion is the easier way of going about it.

FAIL. Where do you people come from?

I said his administration did something....that they admit they did. You call that a conspiracy? I'll give you a break, because it's clear you don't have a clue what's going on, and this is just a knee-jerk defend Obama use the word conspiracy thingy....

The Obama administration did what the Nixon Administration attempted to do, and is one thing Nixon was impeached for

But it is still getting worse. I know you think all the facts are in, but in the last hour it's been revealed that peoples tax records were also leaked to political opponents and private sector competitors.

If you want to play conspiracy, I would offer this as a possible reason Justice Roberts caved on Obamacare. However, the reality is, what they have already admitted is so bad, that nobody needs any kind of conspiracy.

Obama is in deep shit. And I would bet a lot of money that it gets a lot deeper. I tell you now, heads will roll on this one. Even numerous LIBERALS are talking about Impeachment.

Right. The caveat. And Obama didn't order it. It came from within the IRS.
That is known.

WOW. Congratulations on that LEAP in logic - and resorting to personal insults. But again, why let the facts get in the way, eh, you got it all figured out. /roll

How do you know Obama didn't order it? take 2 You are saying what about leaps in logic?

Sounds like pure speculation to me. It's not like we aren't aware that Obama hates the Tea Party, but of course, I'm sure that doesn't mean anything...

And you know he did? Which political appointee did Obama make in the IRS and then ordered to target conservative groups?

LOL - speculation???
You are the one implying the President ordered the IRS to target conservative groups, correlating Obama's "involvement" to that of Nixon's in the Watergate Scandal without a shred of evidence suggesting anything came from the White House. That is a very wishful leap in logic.

And when you get the tapes from Oval Office of Obama ordering the IRS to target conservative groups, please let me know.
