There were 80,000 Jews in Iran prior to the Islamic revolution, less than 40 years ago. There are 9,000 left now. I'd say a loss of 88% of a community's population is pretty significant evidence that despite the propaganda, severe persecution is ongoing. The survival of a tiny fragment of the original community is not evidence of a tolerant community.
