Oh baseball? Not to be a stickler, but it's actually called the World Series. And the U.S. has won it 112 of the 114 times its been played.

Yeah, france is world champion in a few made up sports only played in france too. We call them "championnats du monde" because sometimes an outsider plays it, so we figure that it makes it worldwide.
You americans had to invent that think cause you were too stupid to understand cricket. At least we europeans are too stupid to understand cricket but we didn't come up with a make believe sport instead.

POT 4: Serbia, Japan, South-Korea, Nigeria, Saudi-Arabia, Panama, Marocco, Australia, (New-Zealand?)

So basically they create seperate pots within pots, or so to speak.

So basically pots will be like this in fact:

1- Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama
2- Germany, Portugal, Belgium, France, Poland, Russia, Spain, England
3- Switzerland, Croatia, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Serbia, Japan, South-Korea
4- Nigeria, Saudi-Arabia, Australia, Iran, Egypt, Tunesia, Senegal, Morocco

Not sure if Iran is in Asia or Europe, but if it's in Asia it just can't go with Japan and South Korea, everything else is just pick one from each pot.

edit: actually no, since Brazil for example can't get Germany. Hmm.

I ve written in the op to which federation each country is in.
All pretty straight forward except that australia is within the asian federation since the last 10 years or so, and israel is in europe since its inception to avoid problems with its neighbours i guess.

Regarding the exact procedure of the draw, they have it all figured out. There are several different pots with the same countries depending on different scenarios.
Also, i think the teams from pot 1 have already a group asigned... like russia being the host country, will be seed 1 for group A

It's good revenge for 2006 and 2010 though.

Maybe America and Holland could tell them all about it?

Not too sure what you mean here. So you're a kiwi and you're talking about the world cup 2010 where you guys managed a draw against italy and even letting them finish last of the group.. not too sure of the 2006 reference where they were world champion... and kiwiland didn't qualify.
It's probably kiwi humour, but hey i loved flight of the conchords...

Baseball is the #1 sport in Japan, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and the Philippines. Plus, it's a top 3 sport in Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, USA, and Taiwan. That's an area of the world covering 800,000,0000 people, conchiero.

How popular is Pétanque, conchiero?

I think you're going to give Nietzsche a stroke by claiming this. Fyi, the most popular sport in the Philippines is basketball.

In your dreams peewee.
We ve taught the chinese to play petanque, so that alone makes a bigger coverage than your batman thingy.
Anyways... back on the subject... the world's most universal sport, in which the usa sucks so much they got eliminated by panama in the last minute. Yeah they did!
Panama right?
So countries such as mexico, costa rica and panama did qualify... honduras won a ticket to a playoff against australia... and usa... well 5th behind all these hot shots?  seriously??   a country of 380 million souls can t do better than costa rica honduras and panama??

I know why... his name is donald trump.

LOL and how'd that go? Petanque isn't mentioned one time in this 30 page report.

I honestly didn't even know the US played Panama until this thread. It wasn't even televised on a major network in the U.S. A celebrity softball tournament got higher ratings than than the US/Panama game. The U.S./Panama game had 1 million viewers (in a country of 300 million people) ... by comparison, a rerun of a 20 year old episode of Seinfeld that aired the same day got twice as many viewers.

If we wanted to be good at third world sports like soccer and donkey racing, we would be the best in the world. But soccer and donkey racing aren't sports that interest Americans. And that's okay. The third world should have something it can excel at.

yeah right.... you have over 4 million registered football players (the real one) in the us

As we all know, americans are too self confident to even think they could get eliminated by panama. I just went for a recheck..

https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/RES_CM_CCF.html

actually you didn't qualify.... because you had your last game in trinidad and tobago (1,3 million inhabitants.... and the worse team in the qualifiers that ended up last)
You just needed an draw... and you were qualified directly no matter what.... butno... you were too self confident, you lost.... but that wasn't over... panama still had to beat costa rica; which they did in the very last minute; also honduras had to beat mexico which they did in the last minute.

It's pretty clear that there was a big conspiracy, trinidad giving all they had... mexico letting itself get beaten, same thing for costa rica. Why is that? because everybody hates USA. Haha, suck it!

You made my point. That's a mere 1.3% of the U.S. population. Four million may sound like a lot in a little European country, but in a big, expansive, powerful country like America it's not that many.

And the vast majority of those are little children. In the U.S., soccer is known as a sport for little boys and little girls that they play before they are big enough to play hockey, football, baseball, or basketball. It's a good training sport because it's gentle, so they can't get hurt as easily. That's why we find it amusing when third world countries spend so much time and money - and take so seriously - what is a child's pastime.

Looks like you really know your subject... in mexico it s just 300k registered players out of a population of 127M.
Not only registered players practice football... any kid with a a ball does.

Anyways as a spectator sport:
https://soccerstadiumdigest.com/2016-mls-attendance/

This is the mls only, not counting other football leagues in the us. That's over 7,3 million spectators going to the stadium and paying for a ticket.

And football gentle? Lol. Use your brain a little saxi. It's a pretty dangerous sport, that's why the refs are harsh towards fouls. People basically run at full speed, facing oponents that can only stop you with their legs. And there are no protections like in eggball or hockeyice.
It s also a sport where you have to be running all the time, not like eggball where it stops every 5 seconds of play, with 50 commercial breaks, and like 4 different teams within a same team.

Anyways... a country cannot be considered powefull if it's not good at the most universal sport. The world cup is the holy grale of sports competition, nothing comes even close to interest the whole planet.
You guys made a fool of yourselves... losing against trinidad and tobago.

Soccer is Satan's sport as the games for children are always at the same time as church.

7,300,000 ... that's a cute little number. :D Soccer in the U.S. is something moms take their daughters to for a fun birthday party trip. Grown men don't watch soccer.

Meanwhile, American professional baseball has attendance of 73,000,000 ... and the tickets cost twice as much. That's more than the entire population of France.

In fact, Major League Baseball has the highest attendance of any professional sports league on the Planet Earth.

The second best-attended professional league on Earth? The Japan Professional Baseball League. No soccer league even makes the top five.

But it's cool - if you feel you can only compete in sport against third world countries then you should stick to third world sports like soccer and donkey racing.

People attending baseball games are not even there to watch baseball. They are just there for the kiss cams, the hot dogs and have a bit of fresh air.
Just sum up the spectators in all football leagues or the tv audiences worldwide and compare them to your local sports no one cares about. You have lost yet another argument saxi brown.
It's like if you're trying to prove the empiric system is more widely used compared to the superior metric system. You guys live in your own little world of pixies.
Ps: if you consider baseball so huge... how is 10% of that nothing? Have i ever said that football was any close to baseball or american football in the US? Nevertheless; it has reached an attendance level that counts in your country. It s a sport that is developing year after year... the league was only created 20 years ago while the mlb has probably been around for over a century... like football in europe.

This graph is ridiculously stupid, it doesn t give sources, nor the year. I think i heard the premier league is at 7 billion pounds by now. Also, the main football competition that generates the most, the champions league isn't even on the graph... they just put some domestic leagues... nevertheless, the cherry picking of whatever football league they felt like cherry picking in whatever year they chose to do so and not including the champions league and the europa league... adds up to roughly 20 billions. You can't start a fight that you can't win.
Also... as a shallow american... it always has to come down to money... the only thing that counts for you idiots. No wonder your society is so empty and shallow. The essence of sports is not what money it generates. It's about performance... rivalry, history... and the passion generated around an event.
Nfl and mlb don t generate any passion outside the us... apart from a few wannabees here and there.

A black man would get thrown out of a business meeting without proper ID. A white man would be allowed in. A baseball fan would be allowed in and everyone would turn a blind eye when he bent the CEO over the table and drew a moustache on his butt.

Baseball fans do not need our protection.

Yeah if Formula 1 was on that list it would be number 1.

And guess who wins all the Formula 1? UK! UK! UK!

The only reason american sports do so well financially is because they got commercials every few minutes if not more frequent. It's more advertising than it is sports.
typical american: "hey dude, how was the game?"
other american: "Great, you should've seen those chicks in the Burger King infomercial."
typical american: "And the game itself?"
other american: "I just told you."
